Hi everyone,
I 've recently been prescribed Sandrena gel and Eutrogestan tablets, also Blood pressure tablets, as BP was found to be really high at the consultation.
So last night, I took the first Eutrogestan. I woke up this morning and could hardly lift my head of the pillow, painful and felt really heavy.
This morning, I used my gel and took my BP tablet. I have felt wretched all day. A buzzy, achy, heavy feeling all over and feel like I'm having to drag my body about, with a continuous headache and feeling sick.
I'm expecting an adjustment period of course, as I know my body has to get used to everything going on but I feel so bad, I'm hoping that if I persevere, things will even out.
Has anyone had a similar experience, that hopefully settled down?
Any advice (encouragement) would be great !

Hi! have you taken your blood pressure at home for 2- 3 months? My husband, the calmest person on Earth, gets White Coat Syndrome in the surgery. He takes his BP at the same time each morning, the best of 3 with a small gap between each reading; jots them down and gives to the GP to add to his records.
How R Your periods? HRT can aggravate any hormonal trends as we go into peri-menopause. The body doesn't get where it is suddenly and some regimes may simply be too much addition too soon.
Hopefully someone who takes HRT will be along. U can put the product names individually into the search box to see any threads: make notes! Let us know how you get on.

Hello Charliehorse. I am so sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell. Ultrogestan can often cause unwanted side effects and I suspect it is this that is making you feel unwell. I do not know if you want to give it time and see if you can get used to it or ask for a different progesterone. Some say they have less side effects when it is used vaginally rather then taken by mouth. It may help you to put 'Ultrogestan' in the search bar and have a browse to see how other members found it.

Hi Charliehorse. Sorry you are feeling so unwell. Are you sure it's not the blood pressure medication? Which one are you on?

The blood pressure medication is Ramipril.
Felt ill before I'd taken it though, I'd only taken the Progesterone at that point, so I also assume it's that.
I know I cant really judge so early on, so I will persevere for now and see how it goes.
My periods have only really changed in anyway in the last 12 months. Length of cycle sometimes very short and sometimes, very long. Also became quite painful.
The main reason I sort help, was the psychological symptoms. Confusion, brain fog and zero memory. Can't seem to retain information like I used to.
I'm 53 and looking back, the psychological things were appearing way before the physical.
Thanks so much for all your responses.

The brain fog and physcological issues are common in menopause so its a good thing you are trying HRT. It can take time to find the right one.

Brain fog is common during pregnancy and peri-menopause. We have a thread :Doing Stupid Things : ::)

I just wondered about the BP medication as my mum had dreadful nausea and headaches. She was on ramipril and her GP changed her to perindopril.
Utrogestan doesn't suit everyone. Some on here use it vaginally which might be a possibility for you.
Have you had your blood tested recently if your periods have been longer as you may be low on iron which can cause memory and fuzzy brain.

Good morning ladies.
I woke up this morning after another night dose of Utrogestan and I dont feel slightly as bad as yesterday.
I didn't wake with the thumping headache and i dont feel as weighed down and lathargic as yesterday. Don't get me wrong, I don't feel like I would would be safe to drive or operate heavy machinary (The kettle doesn't count!) and I still feel rubbish, just not as bad.
I really don't like the sedated feeling at all. I know people take it vaginally, so I might try that. Is it ok for me to just try that on my own before I can speak to the nurse do you think?
The Ramipril seems to be ok at the moment. I wake up with the horrible effects of the Utrogestan and then when I take the Ramipril in the morning, it doesn't seem to effect me either way.
I'm slightly more hopeful today, thank you for all your advice.

Morning. You may be on too many medications to find out which isn't suiting.
I would ring my surgery and tell them that I am stopping the BP meds.. Get a home testing machine and take readings regularly. U may find that levels are normal at home.

You can't just stop taking BP meds CLKD - needs supervision. :)

Unless 1 hasn't been taking them for very long. I stopped Propranolol in March 2020 and my GP still isn't aware ::). Even the Pharmacist didn't ask.

I just feel that to advise someone to stop blood pressure medication when we don't know the history is unwise that's all. I hope your BP is ok now :D

I was prescribed Propranolol for anxiety surges.
How R U today Charlie?

How R U today Charlie?
Good Morning
Last night I tried the Utrogestan vaginally and I can confirm, it has made a big difference!
I woke up this morning about 6 am (this is my normal waking time) and felt like I'd had a "real" sleep, not a sedative induced one.
Still feeling a little whoozy but it's such early days, I'm not surpised by that. I haven't got a headache and don't feel so nausious.
I've taken the Ramipril earlier this morning and as I said, I dont feel anything different after taking it, so I do suspect it's the Utrogestan causing the issues.
I have ordered a blood pressure monitor, was reluctant as didn't want to risk the constant, paranoid testing but I do want to be able to confirm things myself.
I want to thank you all for you encouragement and advice and for this lovely site. If I hadn't found it, I wouldn't have known about the other methods for taking Utrogestan and to be honest, I don't think I would have been able to carry on using it.
So I'm going to continue using it this way and let my body adapt to everything. I'm optimistic about the future and I couldn't have said that a few weeks ago.
Thanks again, You're all stars :)

What a lovely update Charlie. I am so happy you had a better sleep and you have found a way you can tolerate the Ultrogestan. You sound so positive. :)

It's not paranoid at all, simply gives U an idea as to what is 'normal' for you. 3 readings a few moments apart B4 you eat each morning for 2-3 weeks should be enough.
Little steps. Keep posting.

Hello again all!
Just thought I'd post a little update, I'm sure there are other newbies like me searching the forums for reassurance , so hopefully it will help someone.
I have continued to take the Utrogestan vaginally and it has made a great difference. I can still feel I'm taking something but the horrible side effects have all but gone. I know it's a marathon not a sprint, so I'm taking each day as it comes but I don't feel ill on the regime at the moment, so I'm very relieved.
A couple of things I have noticed, my boobs are a little bigger. I'm quite Cursed blessed in that department already thank you very much, so I'm hoping it's temporary!
A big big change, is in my mood. As I may have already said, I recently lost my job due to my brain fog, confusion and one little mistake to many. Until that point, I knew something was wrong but tried to battle on, of course increasing my anxiety 10 fold, until I would freeze if someone asked me a question and I couldn't find the correct answer instantly. It was awful. When I eventually lost my job, it made me really look at what was happening to me and decide to seek help.
I noticed yesterday, that the background, constant anxiety wasn't there . I felt calmer. I tried thinking about some of the things which used to make me panic and they just don't seem to have the same charge. It's not even a week of taking HRT and I can feel a change .
I don't know about the brain fog and confusion yet, I still keep finding things in random places (bunch of bananas in the laundry basket!) but I'm hopeful!
I just wanted to let other new people know, to maybe give a bit of encouragement, as the first few days of HRT were very hard for me and I doubted anything would ever help.
One day at a time :)

Thank you for the update Charliehorse. It is wonderful to hear taking the ultrogestan vaginally has helped reduce the side effects. My breasts became much bigger taking HRT too. I can understand how annoying that is. What wonderful news to hear your anxiety has improved. I am so happy to hear that. :)
I agree, one day at a time.
