Title: Can anyone recommend private menopause specialist.
Post by: Hopeful2 on November 21, 2022, 07:29:48 PM
Hi ladies.

Could anyone please recommend a private menopause specialist or how should I choose? I waited 5 months on waiting list at local menopause practice in Hertfordshire, but they cancelled my apt a few days before by email which I didn't even see and said they can't see me until sometime next year, but no idea when? Couldn't believe it after waiting 5 long months. Any recommendation appreciated. Thank you.

For starters, you could have a look on the British Menopause Society website, where they list accredited menopause specialists and you can search for someone in your area if you need to be seen in person. If not, as they all do online consultations these days, I'm sure others will be along soon with their personal recommendations.

Hi

There is Newson Health clinic, founded by Louise Newson.

It is expensive and some of the reviews are mixed.

I am a patient of that clinic, but find they are very quick to tell you to up your dosage. I’m taking it slowly and the GP I have been allocated is very supportive of this.

They are very sympathetic and do listen to their patients.

Best wishes

If you google the above, this is run by Dr Naomi Potter.

Lots of different consultants to choose from.

Hope this helps.

Hi yes this lady is brilliant.  She does telephone and video consultations too so it does not matter where you live.  https://gynae-expert.co.uk/the-amara-clinic/    https://gynae-expert.co.uk/

I saw two private gynaecologists who were listed as menopause specialists - neither was helpful. I saw Dr Abbie Laing at Mymenopausecentre and she was very thorough, explained everything clearly, very thorough letter (she did it on the same day) and she really put me at ease even though I was a complete emotional mess.

Do private menopause clinics deal with stuff like VA/LS? From my (admittedly limited) research the ones local to me seem to be private GPs who tweak HRT doses rather than gynaes/other specialisms.

They would deal with VA, but as to LS, perhaps a vulva dermatologist would be better. Do you have a diagnosis of LS?

A GP "suspects" I may have LS and yesterday referred me to a vulval dermatologist but I don't know how long the wait will be. I have been thinking about going private but I believe the biopsy for LS is 2k although not everyone needs a biopsy. Another GPs previously said I don't have LS because I don't have white patches but I now know that not everyone has them.

Yes I can.  Dr Jane Johnston is a hormone specialist available at ROC clinic Aberdeen.  She does Teams/Zoom consultations.  The relief i felt after speaking to her was indescribable as my own GP wouldn't entertain the idea that my mental health issues were meno related.  She's very approachable and kind.

Thank you all very much for your recommendations. You are all so kind 😊

I would like a face to face apt preferably not too far away from Hertfordshire / Middlesex, but will travel.

Can't say how much I appreciate all your replies. Thank you.

Hello ladies.

I still haven't chosen a specialist yet, so anxious of making another mistake. Was thinking of booking with a Dr Wendy Molefi in Spire Bushey / St Albans she has an Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care is this all I need to look for when choosing a specialist. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Hopeful2 - I'm in Herts. I go to Dr Jane Woyka at Harrow Health Centre. Very happy with the knowledge, service and that she will challenge me while appropriate but always listens! My feeling is she really recognises that the right regime is individual, but that she understands the intersection of all these different hormones and symptoms....

Thank you so much KatyB for your reply.

Did you have to wait long for your apt? If you had problems with HRT between apts could you speak to someone?

Thank you for recommending, much appreciated.
