Title: Ladies on hrt, did you go on it to relieve aches ?
Post by: Dane34 on October 20, 2022, 11:58:55 AM
Hi Ladies

I never tried HRT everything intact and I’m 65
I’m wondering if I went on hrt would it help with my aches ? Is there such a treatment?

Did you go on it because of this reason alone and it helped ?
Can you tell me where & in what way it helped ?
What are you using/taking ?

As oestrogen levels drop muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Have U tried over the counter pain relief as necessary, i.e. prior to walking/gardening/house work?

HRT can relieve aches and pains.

U don't have to take meds every day unless the pain is intense 24/7.  In which case you could ask for a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon for advice for X-rays as well as considering the HRT route.

I never had any joint problems after starting HRT. When it was stopped (against my will) I had all kinds of joint problems, which gradually improved after I got it back again.
Having had a TAH/BSO, I am now using Estradot patches and testosterone.

Hi Dane,
I have arthritis in my hips and the HRT has not helped with this. The only thing that helps are everyday exercise regime prescribed by the physio. It would be the best to check what causes the pain. x

Certainly what I thought was sciatica turned out to be bursitis so physio. recommended exercises.

Hello Dane34

I know of someone of similar age who takes HRT for pain relief. I don't know this lady personally so I'm afraid I don't have any more details about type of HRT or dosage.

You may want to ask your GP if you can experiment with a low dose patch and see if that helps you.

Take care.

My stiff shoulder definitely eased a few months into taking HRT. As did a weird pain in a finger joint.

As with many things it depends on what's causing the pain. I agree it would be good to check out the cause. I had pain in my hips on the outside of the joint. I went on hrt for other symptoms and found the pain went away.
