Title: Help with blood results
Post by: Samsz on October 11, 2022, 05:11:17 PM
Hi,

My niece is 44 and has had a test to see if started peri - she asked me to tell her what the results mean... I thought it would be estrodiol. but these were her results - Serum follicle stimulating hormone level - 8.5 IU/L

Can anyone explain this result please?

Many thanks, Sam

PS

Sorry, so my question is - is the FSH test as unrelaible as the estradiol in diagnosing the perimenopause do you think?

Thanks x

Hi Samsz

Yes, all it’s showing is that she’s not yet  post menopause.

She needs to go by symptoms to establish if she’s in peri.

As Marchlove says peri-menopause is best diagnosed by symptoms but if you have a look at the fertility sites their charts usually show that an FSH of more than 8.5 in the age range for your daughter is considered perimenopausal. My FSH was 140 at age 52 and I was still having regular periods.

Has she got a lot of peri symptoms?

Hi
Thank you both...
She has severe fatigue and occasionally wakes in the night sweating. She has a lot of other gastro health issues though so it's just trying to get to the bottom of all of it!

Thanks again, Sam
