Title: Meno specialist
Post by: Rocky on October 06, 2022, 03:44:51 PM
So I spoke to the menopause specialist doctor who refused to believe anything hormonal was going on at my age, just turned 70. She recommended a blood test for a condition that causes night sweats, also wanted my doctor to check the IBS symptoms when It is clearly IBS and nothing else. She was not inclined to believe the horrible night sweats were anything to do with stopping vaginal estrogen, even tho it is still hrt to so extend. I know my body and the symptoms I am experiencing are clearly hormonal. When I mentioned that women in their 70s and 80s are still getting meno symptoms she just smiled. She then  changed tack and said if the bloodtest is ok she can recommend some estrogen prescriptions.. Go figure!!

I’m in my 70’s and my doctor asked me if the symptoms I was suffering from could be hot flushes, it was me that said no, I don’t think so at my age.
Fast forward a few months with VA and still getting mild hot flushes. Hot flushes mild but prescribed treatment for VA.

A menopause specialist you say!!  I am gobsmacked the way you have been treated!

Show the uneducated menopause specialist this!

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23514136/

Plus many more studies on the internet. She might just learn something and help you and other ladies.

I am so shocked a menopause specialist said this! My mouth actually hung open reading this. I am so sorry you have had such a dismissive menopause specialist. I have IBS and have never heard it causes night sweats. How weird.

Just to say, I would not stop the vaginal oestrogen. Your vaginal atrophy will come back. It is sad the specialist does not know that this must be a lifelong treatment.

As an add on to my post, I have been recommended to try Buscopan, for ongoing IBS and  one of the causes, according to the leaflet, is hormones so menopause can cause/ worsen IBS symptoms. There is a link with low estrogen and gut serotonin. All very complicated!!

I found my ibs became worse with menopause. I hope the Buscopan helps.
