Title: Wedding evening etiquette
Post by: Witch hazel on October 02, 2022, 01:07:55 PM
Hi everyone ...

My son has been invited to a work colleague's wedding evening do next weekend.  I haven't been to a wedding for many, many years and its his first ever.  What is the "done thing"?  He hasn't had a formal invitation as they were all issued online so I haven't see it.  I asked if he needs to take a present, and he said no ...

Its at a local "big house" wedding venue, so I am assuming "smart casual" is acceptable - he is worried he won't fit in with smart jeans, shirt and t-shirt under and needs something more formal.

I know its not really his thing and he is a bit nervous, particularly as going on his own with no partner etc, so any advice appreciated.

Thanks all

Why not ask the Bride and Groom - then let us know ;-).    Dress code should of course, be on the Invite.   >:(.  Is he alone in being asked by a work colleague, if not find out who else might be going and join up with them?   Don't drink and drive ;-)

I’m sure he’ll be just fine in smart jeans and a shirt.
My nephew got married a few years back at a big wedding venue, and although we were there all day suited and booted, the guests who turned up in the evening wore what they liked.
He’ll have a great evening, I love a wedding reception, does he need a plus 1.?  ;D

Smart casual but no jeans. Nice shirt and trousers, no tie needed these days.

Perhaps a pair of chinos and a shirt....I know nowadays a good pair of jeans probable cost twice as much as a pair of trousers but I think trousers with a shirt would look best for a wedding night do.
