Title: Why have my hot flushes returned
Post by: Fairycake on September 28, 2022, 04:35:00 PM
Hi everyone. I am 63. Periods stopped some years back. Had a couple of flushes then, but nothing for ages and out of the blue they started. I have had an immense amount of stress and my anxiety is through the roof which doesn’t help.
Not ever had HRT and don’t really want to start at this late stage.
Has anyone found herbal remedies helpful? Menopause etc

Hello Fairycake and welcome to the forum. I suspect your having hot flushes as your oestrogen has dropped. HRT can be taken for life and you can start it at 63 if you wish to.

I am sure other members will be able to help with alternative therapy ideas.  :)

Hi, I'm 68 & came off HRT 3 years ago, I'd been on Femoston Conti low dose, & for several years I'd cut the tabs into 1/3rds, all I needed to control flushes.

Insomnia kicked in last Oct/Nov, & weirdly flushes kicked back in at the same time, a few 'medium' ones daytime, & 2 or 3 at night, 'spontaneously combust' level!

I decided to try Black Cohosh (from Holland & Barrett) once again, though in my 'salad' meno days it had proved useless.  I have found that this time it definitely did tone down my current flushing somewhat, all fewer & milder (manageable).

I've gone back on HRT (past 3 days), though the reason isn't relevant to your question.

Be careful with Black Cohosh if you're on other meds.

Hi Fairycake,

Sorry to hear that your flushes have returned.

When you say many years back you had hot flushes, when was this? How long have been in postmeno for? The oestrogen drops, and there is a huge drop when a woman reaches the menopause, but after a while oestrogen cannot simply continue to drop as it has to stabilise at some point.  I don't believe it can continues to drop until we pass away.  That's not possible. I don't think hot flushes are only related to the menopause.

Hello everyone I’ve just joined this forum x
I’ve tried several natural remedies- nothing even touched the surface of my hot flushes.
My doctor took me off Premarin because she said at 61 it’s pointless being on it.
Now I have about 20 episodes over 24 hours, she has now given me Clonidine which I’m reluctant to take, any thoughts please. Or do we just plod on?

Hello gray and welcome to the forum. I do not have any suggestions about your question but just wanted to welcome you. If you start a new topic then you may get more replies. I know how hard it can be navigating forums.  :)

Why were you not given transdermal HRT to replace the Premarin? It is preferred that women over 60 should use transdermal oestrogen (patch, gel or spray) rather than oral, but as you can take HRT all your life, it seems most unreasonable to leave you with nothing.
Are you in the UK?

Hi gray. I agree with Joaniepat. You should have been offered transdermal HRT. I'm on patches and am 68.

Hi, I've just joined the group and saw your post.  Hemp oil capsules got rid of my hot flushes prior to me taking HRT.  It was amazing the difference. Worth trying as different things seems to help different people.
