After being on oestrogel and 100mg ultrogeston fir the past 8 months jve decided to stop my hrt and im so scared of whats to come, ive been bleeding and spotting off and on all through the past 8 months since i started this hrt i was advised last December to come off hrt until i had my polyps removed so i came off it for 8 weeks i didnt bleed at all but i. Struggled terrible i felt awful, i started ultrogeston and oestrogel in feb after polyp was removed and had problems since with bleeding since then have tried upping to 200mg made no difference at all what i tried, so last month gp referred me back to gynecology so. App next week, but since 20th aug i been constantly spptting or having bouts of heavy bleeding just cant cope no more ive got to watch what clothes i wear as scared im going be out and just start bleeding heavy i take my hrt at night and when i wake i bleed heavy in morning then it seems to stop but today its really heavy and terrible pain im positive its the hrt im on ive spoke to my gp about changing it and she said it wont work, im 58 and dont want to be having periods again but cant go on like this then spoke to gp about going back on to a sequel and she said not advisable at my age i shouldn't be bleeding at all i just give up i know from past experience my life is down hill from now i cant function without it but cant cope with tje bleeding no more any advice please cause im not getting any from my gp thanks

Sorry this is just a quick reply but your GP is wrong about not being able to use a sequi HRT at your age. There are members on here who have chosen sequi in their 60s due to problems with bleeding on the conti regime or with the way continuous progesterone makes them feel. Good luck with your appointment. I'm glad you have been referred. Could there be a new polyp?

Taz2 i know people still on sequel in their 60s but my gp is saying no to me i don't really want to be hving periods but at least il know where i am, i dont think polyps are back as i started this hrt 2 days after having my polyps removed and bleeding basically started within days so we will see next week, i was on.a sequel till 2019 then changed to. Conti. Since then ive had problems. With polyps

I have just stopped taking hrt today due to bleeds . I will seer if I can manage without it
-
Hi weeloz hope you manage ok i know im going struggle i did when i was off it for 8.weeks before, its my joint pain that will be the worse as i also have oestroarthithus unfortunately supplemnents for this makes me sick otherwise i would take some
-
Jane1234 I hope you are ok and managed without it too . I know how you feel 're the bleeding that is why I have stopped too . Can you take pain killers for your joint pain or ask for a strong one from your gp
-
I do take painkillers when needed but when i came off hrt last time the pains i was gettting was twice as worse i feel like an old lady 1st thing in the morning really bad hrt really helped with the joint pain, i cant stomache strong painkillers plus i drive in mornings so cant be having the effect of strong painkillers in my system hope you manage to cope off the hrt or get an alternative sorted
-
From what I remember, you don’t want a coil? It’s stopped my bleeding dead in its tracks. No bleeds at all.
-
Hi nas no i really dont want a coil but the way im going might have to im seeing gynecology next week so il go from there at the moment im bleeding so heavy and i stopped hrt sat and still heavy ive just had a enough glad its sorted you out nas so have you had any side effects at all with coil
-
As you have stopped HRT then bleeding is to be expected due to the progesterone withdrawal. Hopefully this should soon lessen.

Taz2 hopefully as in agony today and hospital just cancelled my appointment next week im gutted
-
Oh no that's dreadful. What painkillers can you tolerate?
Taz x
-
Taz2 im taking ibuprofen and dissolvable paracetamol
-
That's good. Ibuprofen contains an ingredient which can lessen bleeding. How heavy is it now? How many pads/tampons/both are you getting through?
Taz x
-
Still quite heavy just came r through tampoon lucky i had a pad on as well that had been on for just under 1h and half eased again now but terrible pain hopefully will start easing as day goes on i been feeling sick and dizzy i expect thats from stopping hrt, i wish i hadnt stopped it now im so worried of whats to come i know im going feel dreadful im teary allready
-
Maybe you should try sequi? My bleeds became very light and painless after the initial three months and only having progesterone for half of the month was a bonus for me. I had a hysterectomy at 60 so I'm just on Evorel 50 now.
The nighttime pads are good for heavier bleeds. Nice and long.

Taz2 my gp told me no to seque she said its not normal at 58 to have periods i know this is rubbish as many are on a sequel l i stopped hrt now cause of the bleeding and my appointment for gynecology would be next week and i was going chat my other options with them but now app cancelled so i just dont know what to do
-
Hi Jan,
Poor you, sounds awful with that bleeding.
Sequi would be an option to try for sure. Why won’t the gp let you try it?
Re the mirena. Mine has been in for 13 weeks now. Some initial cramps and bloating, but nothing serious. A bit of spotting here and there. You need sufficient oestrogen to counteract any side effects.
You can always get it removed if you don’t get on with it. I resisted for ages but I couldn’t cope with the bleeding any longer and need some kind of hrt.
Hope you get sorted soon.
-
Hi nas i have been adamant im not having a coil but i am now considering my options i cant have a mirena yet any how as gynie will be doing a hyposcopy so gp said if i decide to have one wait till after that is done, the sequel part i cant understand why gp aa changed her mind as it was her that told me last time i had 2 options left sequel or mirena, i wanted to try and see now if i can cope without hrt but allready im hving dizziness and so tired meaning my app been cancelled and dont know when i will be seen going 2 ring gp and see if theres an alternative progesterone i can use, in the past now ive tried upping to 200mg the 1st time i done that it stopped thw bleed but could not tolerate the side effects even though i used them vaginally, so was told to go back on 100mg then when in spain on hol bleeding got heavy again so went back on 200mg and i bled so heavy it scared me so im thinking ultrogeston is my problem here
-
Yes utrogestan isn’t always effective at maintaining bleeding unfortunately.
Wha about norethisterone or provera? They are meant the good progesterone types to prevent bleeding.
-
Hi spoke to gp today shes given me the 200mg ultrogeston vaginal tablets she said they are slightly different to the ultrogeston orally, if these dont work she said she will try me on provera, she alsio put me bak on transmatic acid to stop the bleed, also i asked again about going on sequel and this was a different gp to last time and she also said no i asked why and was told if id been say 6 years yonger then yes but as im 58 now its not right to be having a bleed at my age so thats 2 gps saying this to me I cant believe it what of waste of time today i just checked the ingredients in the 200mg tablets and are exactly the same as the 100mg so how the hell can the gp say try these one's they might work better i give up with gps

Just how much sh*t do we have to put up with?? Some women aren't meno til their early 60s and conti is not appropriate unless your meno. I was told by a specialist I couldn't possibly still be having periods when I asked for hrt aged 57 as everyone is meno by 54. Tempted to ram the evidence down his throat (bad temper was a symptom :(). Do you if you're peri or meno? If you're peri a mirena will stop the bleeding but utro probably won't even at the higher dose. She's right there's a slightly higher risk on sequi but it's a risk I'll take as I get fatigue on utro - it's my choice not theirs. A conti regime is appropriate when you're meno not because you reach a certain age.
If there's a possibility you're peri I would try a sequi regime. The dose is the same and she isn't watching... (200mg x 12 days, days 15-26).
She's wrong about the utro too, apart from the dose they're the same. The 100mg can be used vaginally too.
-
Shella99 hi, I was diagnosed peri at 49 was on sequel then til 54 then went on conti never had a blood test to see what levals are they wont do them, was on kliofem conti till this year but i started getting alot of fatigue and also had a few polyps over the time i was on them so i let a gp convince me to try body identical hrt sounded good at the time, gone through hell ever since and they dont want to let me go back on a synthetic hrt, i dont want a coil but am considering it unfortunately i cant have one till after ive seen gynecology about the bleeding and god knows when that will ne now as my appointment was supposed to be next week and they habe cancelled it, so yes im back to square one not knowing what to do,.
-
Not much chance you're peri then! Though you can still use a sequi regime if you choose to. I'm in the same boat re mirena. I get fatigue on utro so have stayed on a sequi regime so being bleed free with a mirena looks like sensible option - it's that I don't want one either. I believe provera and norethisterone are better than utro at preventing bleeding but possibly not much picking between them and a mirena. Are you getting a scan with your appointment? I hope they can rearrange it soon.
-
Sheila99 yes il have a scan when i get the app, i might ring her 2mrw and. Ask her fir provera instead she did say if thws dont work then she will try me on provera, any idea if there are any side effects with provera hopefully not, or otherwise i might just stay off hrt and see how i go im so fed up with bleeding scared of trying anything different now
