Title: Increased discharge
Post by: Margymoo on September 08, 2022, 01:51:48 PM
Hi, I’m age 52, been on HRT since February 2022, gradually increased and recently changed from patches to 3 pumps of eostrogel and Utrogestan 2 weeks on/off.  For the last 3 cycles I have had increased vaginal discharge, clear liquid and sometimes quite watery and need to wear a pad.  Is this a usual side effect and will it settle??  It’s not thrush and doesn’t seem to be any pattern to it, it’s gone from dryness to the other extreme!  Any advice and ‘it will pass’ comments welcome

Dryness and/or watery discharge are symptoms of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (aka Vaginal Atrophy). It is due to lack of oestrogen in this area, which systemic oestrogen does not always reach. Unfortunately it will not pass, but needs treatment with local oestrogen such as Vagifem or Ovestin. There are many threads about this on the forum, so have a browse round. It can be managed but needs ongoing maintenance treatment.
