Title: Another UTI
Post by: Pixielilac on July 10, 2022, 11:56:46 AM
Yet another UTI and yet another course of antibiotics :( So fed up with this.
I only had one about 3 weeks ago. I dropped a sample in to the docs on Tuesday and results were borderline and they wanted me to re do a sample in a week.
However by Thursday I couldn’t bear it so got an appointment with the nurse, she dipped it and said there is blood in and white cells so spoke to doctor who did a prescription for 3 days and it’s no better. I can’t lean on for example the kitchen work top or lay on my side in bed as it makes me need a wee. Nurse said something has irritated my bladder.
I have been using extra Ovestin inside and out as I have been taken off HRT at the moment because of a blood clot from breaking my toe.
Even using Ovestin  is making me sore.
Drinking loads of water but still the same ☹️

So sorry pixielilac. I always show blood and white cells in urine samples but there is not infection. Have you had cystoscopy to check your bladder? I use vagifem so not sure about ovestin.

In the meantime I've found that drinking well diluted lemon barley helps with the discomfort. Also are you doing pelvic floor exercises as these can make the bladder feel uncomfortable if they are too vigorous. Which antibiotic is it?

You might need a drug to calm the irritable bladder, there are few to choose from.

I find I need a good whack of systemic and local Hrt to keep the bladder healthy.

What Hrt are you on now? Still femeston ? My bladder went awol on that unfortunately, far too low.

Thankyou for your reply.
I haven’t had a cytoscopy, I have face to face doc appointment in 12 days and have a list of questions and also going to ask about estring.
I am on nitrofurantion for 3 days.
I’m not doing any pelvic exercises, was looking into that.

Nas thankyou for your reply.
I was on femoston conti 1/10, but took off it because I broke my toe and got a blood clot.
I am waiting to hear back from docs as to which if any HRT they are going to put me on, DVT clinic say I can have HRT but not tablet, doc standing in for my doc as he was out of surgery took me off HRT, so when my own doc back I spoke to him he speaking to thrombosis people to see what they say.

He's a long while speaking to the Consultant Pixielilac.  Also, I would ask for the appt to be brought forwards as 12 days is a long while.  If it's aurine infection it might back track causing problems.  I tend to think though that it's VA.  MayB use a little 'ovestin' several times a day on the outer labia as well as internally, twice a day.  If the area is dry it will be sore, I find that KY Jelly can help too.

Also, my urine samples always show similar, which is why a sample MUST be sent to a Lab for growing.

ABs should ease symptoms as will pain relief, I use 'nurofen'.  R U allowed pain relief presently?

Thankyou CLKD for your reply.
I can’t take iboprufen because I have asthma, so only on paracetomol.
I had a phone call on Friday from the docs receptionist ringing on behalf of the thrombisis dept asking if I still have my womb, I’d have thought my medical records and previous HRT would have  told them that, assuming they are looking into a new HRT.
Apparently that appointment is the soonest according to the rottweiler receptionist who also told me when I rang about not getting on with Utrogestan  that ‘they won’t  put you back on HRT you know when they have taken you off it’ 🤬

If you have a history of a clot, migraine, diabetes or liver disease then you can still take HRT but it is likely that you will be recommended to use a patch or gel rather than a tablet. This is a safer and associated with fewer risks compared to having the tablet form of oestrogen.

Some need a longer course than 3 days to clear the UTi. Men get an automatic 14 day course!

Try belly breathing to relax the pelvic floor- google for examples.

If the UTI's continue after resuming  HRT , which can help reduce symptoms- then look into Chronic UTI which has recently been accepted by the NHS as a condition.

It is so painful and debilitating and GP's can forget how awful it is as they deal with it every day and it is routine for them.

You could ask to try some Vagifem instead of the Ovestin. How often are you using the Ovestin? I think the instructions say to do a loading dose of every night for the first few weeks and then 2x weekly? But often women need more than that - you might need to increase your dose of it to be every night, until you get back onto systemic HRT....

I have both Vagifem and Ovestin and the Vagifem is just way easier and more convenient internally.

I can't believe that receptionist!!

Thankyou joziel for your reply. I was on the other Vagifem, can’t remember the name-memopause brain ::)- and it kept falling out not dissolved.
I am now using Ovestin every night now I have no HRT.

Oh right! If it was falling out undissolved, it suggests you're v dry up there - you could use it with some YES VM added on the applicator as that would probably be enough for it to dissolve in...

You can get YES VM in preloaded applicators by the way, and use it in the morning or a different time of day to the Ovestin.

Hope you feel better and can get back on HRT soon. I'm sure you will be allowed transdermal HRT (patch or gel).  :)

Thankyou x

UTi's are hideous, I hope you feel better soon. Also try not to stress too much , as this tightens the pelvic floor and makes it hurt more. Also if on antibiotics do not drink too much as this can dilute the medication. Although do keep hydrated.

I hope you feel better soon. Liz earle had constant UTi's and HRT stopped them for her .

I have just come through a flare up of V.A and the symptoms were exactly like having a uti and running to the toilet all the time to pass a little bit of wee.

Reloading with vagifem has helped massively. I have had the same issues with vagifem pessaries coming out undissolved and then someone on here (sorry can’t remember who, but thank you!) suggested dabbing the pessary and applicator in a little of water-based Yes Wb before insertion and it worked like a charm. I think it must have helped with the dryness and also kick-started the process of dissolving the vagifem. I think the pessaries coming out undissolved fuelled the flare up, and also I probably because I stopped using my patches for a week or so to see how things went without them and I think that upset the applecart too.

Hope you feel better soon x

I think that was me, talking about putting some YES VM on the applicator  ;D.

That's what I've always done. Half of it comes off in the sink before I can put it anywhere but a lot of it goes up the right place(!).

Thank you so much, Joziel! Doh! Just read back through the comments and saw your post with the same advice above. Sorry, I’m half asleep and my memory is like a sieve. It was a brilliant suggestion - not had any further issues with undissolved pessaries.  I just put one drop of WB on the back of my hand and dab the tip of the pessary in and then “roll” the tip applicator in. All these little snippets of advice make a massive difference so thanks to everyone for sharing! xx

I’d apply it a bit more liberally than that. I squeeze it all up and down the outside and the end. Some of it comes off in the sink but most of it gets in…!

Get it up there Girls  ;)

I get niggles around and below my belly button deep inside when a flare up is about to erupt so I put 'ovestin' up in the afternoon and a 2nd dose at night, take 'nurofen' 2 capsules 3 times a day until symptoms ease.
