Hi everyone, I’ve been taking HRT for a couple of years to help with all the symptoms of peri menopause, such as brain fog, low mood, aching, hot nights, heavy and irregular bleeds. Periods are now fading and sometimes hardly there at all. But this is the thing. I thought that once you reached menopause, i.e. once your periods stop for a year, that all the symptoms disappear. But I’m reading on here that this isn’t the case - in fact they may get worse once my hormones give up all together. So please, enlighten me, what’s it like after menopause and is there light at the end of this tunnel??

Hi Tryingtobehealthy. Everyone's experience of menopause is different but it is true that even after periods stop oestrogen levels continue to drop and in some women this can cause ongoing menopausal symptoms. When you are post meno though the dreadful mood swings are supposed to even out but other things such as joint and muscle aches, poor sleep, anxiety and vaginal atrophy can be troublesome for some women.
As you are on HRT you will not know where you are in your menopause journey as your bleeds are caused by the hrt and not true periods. I am still on HRT at age 68 as without it I don't feel as well as I do with it.

HRT is a long-term thing (or will be if you don't want symptoms to come back and risk factors for various diseases to go up).

Hi.
I sailed through peri, wasn’t until I reached post meno all my symptoms started. 🤷🏼♀️

Same for me. I am around 7 years post menopause now and my symptoms are worse now than in peri. I have never managed to get rid of the night sweats.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Looks like we’re in it for the long haul! :-\

It's Trial and Error.
Ovaries may continue to pump out enough oestrogen to give symptoms ......... menopause is exactly that: the end of periods. It is suggested that we count the months through until we are 12-15 months free of periods, even then Nature may throw a curved ball: then we begin counting all over again ::)
If HRT helps ........ ? If you were diabetic you would continue with medication. ;-)
