Title: Extreme Pain, lost all hope.
Post by: LillyWilliams. on June 28, 2022, 06:46:40 PM
Hi,

I started HRT around 2019, due to going into the menopause and suffering severe hot flashes and other debilitating symptoms.
To cut a very long story short, I am in in pain constantly. I have a debilitating pain in my nose, all day every day for the past 3 years. It’s reaching a breaking point, as I don’t know what to do anymore.

I am currently on 25mg Estradot and cyclical utrogestan. I’ve tried 100mg, 150mg, 200mg, 75mg, 62mg, 50mg and 37mg, all with no success. My GP is not helping either, no one is really interested.

I am in so much pain and I need a break, if anyone has any advice it’d be so appreciated.

Hi,

It’s like a an extreme crushing/pressure pain, and no I haven’t been referred. I don’t know if it’s a sinus problem as I have no other symptoms of sinus issues, but weirdly enough I got covid about 3 months ago and the pain went for about a month. It did come back and is now as bad as it could be!

Sounds awful Lilly, must be a worry for you.

I agree with jaypo, you need a referral to a ENT specialist.
You might have to make quite a fuss to get one, but persevere if you can.

But obviously there is some sort of hormonal link as this pain first started after you went on hrt so that needs thinking about also.

As Jaypo just said, might it be a long covid symptom, but you had it before, so difficult to know. X

What to do about it is a difficult one though.

Have you tried stopping hrt to see it the pain subsides?
Do you notice a a flaring of pain at a particular time in the cyclical regime?
If so that might help you to identify which hormone might perhaps be to blame.
X

have you thought about it might be a migraine?
Try asking for a Sumatriptain and see if pain goes if it does then its migraine.

Ask for a referral to a dedicated menopause clinic as well as an ENT appt.

I've had nasal polyps - they created enormous pressure - and had to be surgically removed. It was a quick and easy procedure and recovery was short even though under a general. Worth asking?
