Anyone else have or had days and days of brown discharge before a period actually gets going?
I am having this at the moment and I had it happen a couple of months ago
I am 53 and not on HRT
it’s like a period is trying to start but it just can’t. Yesterday I had a very small amount of red bleeding and I thought, here it comes, but no, back to the brown spotting again all day today
It’s so frustrating and makes me quite anxious.
I have yet to miss a period and hope that each month that arrives that this will be the month, but it’s obviously not my time just yet

I always had that at the end: heavy cramping bleeds for 10 days which would ease off; then 2 days without anything followed by a brown stain for 2 days. Probably not enough of a hormone to push the womb into producing blood at the right time?

Thanks CLKD. I was thinking the same about not enough hormones
I’m assuming it will all sort itself out eventually

My other thought was, that maybe this is my period, just brown discharge instead of full on flow 🫤

It's The Change; does what it says on the tin ::) so yes, it might well be. How do you feel otherwise? How is your diet?

I feel ok in myself apart from tearful all the time and very anxious, not sleeping great at the moment. My diet is good, very healthy
Thanks for replying to me. Means a lot 😊

Think this is pretty normal at the end, you can go for months with nothing then have a period from hell with clots and then 10 days of spotting and brown discharge then back to normal periods for s few months then nothing again. Anything goes, it's just the reverse of puberty, remember how unpredictable that was in the beginning 😏

Thank you for the reassurance Dierdre
It’s all very confusing and scary, even though absolutely anything goes so it seems
Yes I remember the unpredictability of puberty 🫤
-
I don't remember that far back ;). Until the monthly pains with clotting began >:(. I was 15.

Don't remind me, i dreaded every month.

Thing is, I don’t think I’m near the end. I’ve not even missed a period yet. They’ve just been much lighter since January

That happens too, they become lighter and maybe only a couple of days then you can miss a couple of months then go back to regular again for a while. I went 15 months without a period then had 2 more before finally finishing, its very random and no pattern to it at all.

Thank you Dierdre
That really does help. I really need to try to adjust to the unpredictability of it all, but finding it really hard at the moment. It seems to all just fuel my anxiety

Hormone changes and peri menopause also cause anxiety but if it's making you so worried perhaps make an appointment with your GP or practice nurse to do a few tests to put your mind at rest.

I have an appointment booked for a few weeks time

Well, after nearly 5 days of brown discharge I had a period start. And what a horrific one it is too. After nearly a year of much lighter ones, this one has been the heaviest I’ve had in a while (and with huge blood clots). Today is day 3 and has calmed down a lot now to something more manageable.
Took me off guard this one did. Definitely wasn’t expecting it to be like that.
We were visiting our daughter up in Manchester and thankfully I had taken all sorts of supplies with me.
At one point I had to go back to the house and change
