Hi Dee

Well done for starting a new topic!

Hrt could certainly help you and having a sympathetic and supportive Gp is a real bonus.

There are many other things you can do to support yourself like looking at your diet, exercise and doing meditation can be of huge benefit.

Are you taking any supplements such as magnesium? Magnesium can help enormously with anxiety but you have to take the right one, not oxide which is only good for constipation and you need a good dose.
Magnesium Glycinate is the best one for anxiety and should also help with sleep.
Have a search on the forum, there have been some good ones recently on magnesium.

Do you have any other menopause symptoms such as aches, vaginal dryness?

X

Dee, with regard to ADs I take mirtazapine, primarily for sleep, but also anxiety. Unfortunately it does have a side effect of weight gain and no matter how little I eat I've managed to put on a stone since starting it in Jan. It was worth it just to get a full nights sleep again, but it has stopped working this week out of the blue. It may be because I was told to reduce my oestrogen pending some biopsy tests but not sure It might work for you though - definitely helped with anxiety and reduced palpitations.

I'm about to try magnesium glycinate so will post back and let you know if it works!

wrt best hrt to try - it really is trial and error. I don't absorb very well and have now tried everything - gel, spray and patches. It can be very frustrating and long winded but it may be that you hit the sweet spot quickly. If I had to choose I would opt for patches because I like the no mess, slap it on and forget about it approach. I found gel messy and annoying and the spray made my skin itch (but dried incredibly quickly).

My anxiety has taken the form of being hyper health aware and worrying about the slightest thing. Even though I rationalise it the whole process makes you feel constantly worried and drained. When HRT was working for me I felt so much better and those thoughts went away.Definitely mention this to your doctor along with your other more obvious menopause symptoms. Make sure she realises it's part and parcel of an overall set of issues and not JUST anxiety.

Hi Dee

Yes you can take magnesium with antidepressants. Start with one after your dinner tonight and build up to 3.
There are some painkillers you might need to be wary of with mitrazapine so ask your Gp when you see him.

It’s best to start on a low dose patch and work up as your body adjusts to it. X

Evening All

Make a list Dee of all your symptoms when you go to see GP. So often the prescribe AD’s for what are actually menopause symptoms.

No harm for awhile until you can figure out the best way forward, which you will.

Keep talking ladies xx

Hi Dee,

Sorry yo hear this.

Have you strarted feeling drpressed and anxious 4 years postmeno?  How was it for you before the menopause?  Have you ever been depressed or suffered from anxiety before the menopause?  Also, how was it in peri? Did you start experiencing anxiety and depression then and noticed that it gradually got worst?

Karine
