I'm waiting for a mirena to be fitted but read somewhere that it can cause weight gain. Has anyone had this happen to them?
I'm peri and need to sort the progesterone side but have heavy periods. If it's progesterone causing weight increase I'm screwed as I have to pick something as I'm using oestrogel.. Or is it something different in the mirena that causes the weight gain?

I hope it doesn’t cause weight gain, as I’m getting one fitted next week.
I have high hopes for this coil to stop me bleeding on HRT. Really don’t want weight gain!

I've read it's the lack of progesterone that allows oestrogen to become dominant and then causes weight gain. The mirena coil is progesterone so will balance the hormones and not allow oestrogen to dominate and cause the weight gain.

Agree with Dierdre, in general it's excess Estrogen that causes weight gain. I know two people who've had the Mirena fitted and they're both stick thin and haven't gained weight from it xx
