Title: Testosterone Prescription Help - NHS
Post by: VictoryV on May 06, 2022, 03:39:46 PM
Hi,

This link has a lot of info that will help you discuss testosterone replacement with your NHS GP.

It has helped me to keep my NHS T prescription today and get it on repeat:

Thanks for this.

I saw my GP (on phone) today for testosterone.  I’ve had HRT for 4 months but still poor libido so wanted to try.  Read up on Testogel and knew the right quantities etc.

GP positive about idea and said she had prescribed it off licence earlier before but not often so needed to look at risks/quantities etc.

When she told me quantities I was surprised but because I hadn’t read up in Tostran so much, wasn’t sure she was wrong.  But she prescribed me MALE amounts - to take it daily and have 4 pumps per day instead of 1 pump 3 times a week.  She said the pack would last me a month, but the BMS article you link to suggests 240 days!

I’m shocked.  On one hand Indont want to complain because it could make them even mire anxious about prescribing off licence and make it harder for women to get T, but on other hand, this is pretty dangerous.  She clearly didn’t know exactly where to look for the info and looked at male orescring not men’s.

Anyway, will start this weekend with correct dosage and see how I get on.  Honestly, it’s just not an easy ride to get this right is it!

Certainly not easy!

I would call her straight away to correct her, possibly with the link to the BMS clinician guide.
I’m surprised the pharmacist didn’t pick up on this error.
I’ve had prescription errors with testosterone dosing too but not to that extent; I wasn’t given instructions at all on my first Testogel pump!

I’m glad you’re aware of the correct dosage! Hope you see improvements soon.☀️
