Title: FIT test
Post by: jaypo on May 03, 2022, 03:24:14 PM
Has anyone ever had a positive FIT test done(poo sample for blood)and it's come back positive? I just got told mine was positive and I need to have another colonoscopy, the last colonoscopy I had in 2019 showed diverticulitis and the private specialist said the likelihood of colorectal cancer was slim over the next 5 years,I have read that there are many things that can cause a positive reading but I'm still terrified  :'(

I’m sure you are terrified but try not to panic, easier said than done I know.  My partner had a positive test, and was very anxious as there is bowel cancer in his family.   Luckily it was due to internal piles, which he didn’t even know he had.  Sending you positive vibes and hugs.

Thanks ladies,it does say that 96% of all people who test positive have nothing nasty going on,just hope I'm one of them,I'd had diarrhoea a week previously,so it says it could also come from inflammation,or my diverticulitis, got a private consultation on Friday xx

Hello Jaypo.

I am sorry that you have had this worry. The IBD clinic that I used to attend told me that many things can result in blood showing in the stool so it was nothing to worry about. The fact that you have diverticulitis means that the pouches can be inflamed and bleeding until they heal.

Take care and let us know how things go on Friday.

K.

Thank you ladies 💖 apparently even piles can give a positive result,I'm clutching at straws here but trying to remain calm.

Best of luck. Always a worry when you are recalled after routine testing for anything. As you say, it’s likely to be something like your diverticulitis or piles, but even if it was cancer, it will likely be early days and treatable. I hope you don’t have to wait too long for an appointment for your colonoscopy.

Hi all, just to say, I saw the private specialist yesterday, who was fabulous,he doesn't think I've anything to worry about but said it would be negligent of him NOT to double check but BECAUSE he thinks I'm ok,he said he'd put me for a ct colonography first, which I'm relieved about, then,if anything DOES show up,then I'll have to have a colonoscopy. The amount of blood in my stool was 50,it's supposed to be below 10,he said,if it was at 400 he'd  be more concerned, said it could just have been an internal pile, what with the diarrhoea (sorry) yet my dr said no no,wouldn't be a pile  :o what is it drs are for exactly?? Anyway, feel a bit calmer and thank you all for being there xx :-*

That's what GPs are - general practitioners.  They have a Duty of Care to send patients for further exploration to a 'specialist' - in the name.  Probably  ::)

Phew!  I was wondering .......... how long will you need to wait?

Sending you a virtual hug, Jaypo.  I would feel reassured by what the specialist said I have to say.   :bighug:
