I’m pretty sure I’ve asked this already, but I feel so rubbish today, I’m going to ask it again. Can periods restart after a long gap?
Last natural period - August 2018
Started HRT gel/ utrogestan continually - July 2019-August 2020
No bleeding at all
Didn’t absorb any gel ( probably why no bleeding?)
Patches - September 2020-November 2020
No bleeding
December 2020
bleed on patches
All of 2021
bleed on patches patches
January 2022
Start Femeston Conti 1mg
bleeds each month to date
Am I even post menopausal?
Bloods reveal I am.
Hysteroscopy x 2 all clear.
No polyps, cysts, ovarian cysts.
No thickening of womb lining.
Oestrogen has gone down from 462 to 307 since I started oral HRT.
If I come off HRT, I’m in the black hole of despair.
What to do?
I just dont want a coil.

Hi
After years of no period, mainly due to having the mirena, my hrt was changed and I now have a period or spotting regularly. My doc has said it will settle/stop again once I'm at the right level of hrt

Are you post menopausal though Smarty?
You might not be if you have had a Mirena for years, hence the bleeding?

Hi Nas
If you don’t mind me asking….how old are you?
You say your last period was August 2018….where you on any hormones at the time ( HRT or contraceptive) ?
Your oestrogen has probably g9ne down because you’ve lowered the dose . x
-
I’m 50 Dotty..
No hormones or anything ever in my life.
The first hormones I introduced to my body was at the end of July 2019.

Hi it could be that you’re not post menopausal. You were quite young to have stopped periods and hadn’t quite gone a full year without them when you went onto hrt.
Have you tried a sequential regime of HRT? xx
-
Hi Dotty,
It could be that I’m not post menopausal. Why didn’t I bleed for so long then, from September 2018 to November 2020? I just don’t understand.
I could try cyclical I guess.

Just checked every email from gynae and endo, re my levels and they all say that I am well within post menopausal range.
I think the bleeding is a side effect of the Hrt and it doesn’t seem to matter what Hrt I use, I still bleed.

Hi
Yes I'm post meno

What is your bleeding like smarty? Is it regular like a period ? Or random? Do you experience pmt symptoms? Xx
-
Hi
Its not quite like a period but not far off it, bleeding/spotting most days with mayne a few days break if I'm lucky, I do get pmt on top of meno symptoms, it's not much fun
Saw my doc this week who assures me that once my hrt is balanced it will all settle and stop 🤞🙏

I think I heard on a podcast a Harley street specialist talking about bleeding up to 6 months on a new regime. Hopefully it will settle down🤞🤞 we all have spammers thrown in for good measure🙄
-
What Hrt regime are you on Smarty? My bleeding is like a period too, with cramps and pmt.
Sweetooth, I don’t hold much hope unfortunately. Persevered with patches for 15 months or so and the bleeding just kept arriving 🤦♀️ X

Hi
I have the mirena and currently on 100mcg of evorel but waiting to start on Lenzetto spray

Ah okay thanks smarty.
Fingers crossed for you then 🤞x

Nas, you sound the same as me. My period stopped in nov 2018. I put up with symptoms until last year, so 2021…. HRT made me bleed very heavily, and also really mentally messed me up.
I’d never had hormones before either, being a migraine sufferer. I’m also 50 so the same age as you.
I’m very sensitive to hormones obviously ( and a lot of other medication) and it might be that you are too.
Maybe have a break from HRT and try natural remedies?
What are the main symptoms you deal with off HRT?
Xx
-
Yep Suzy, we are very similar then.
I’ve never taken any hormones in my life and I don’t think they really agree with me either.
My main issues include bladder irritation ( which only calms on the right dose of systemic Hrt AND vagifem) else I’m stuffed and low mood / irritability and anxiety. Libido has gone on the oral Hrt too.
All in all, life has become tough. This is the 4th year now and I’m feed up.
How are you getting on ? Xx
-
I’m wondering if you can be referred for pelvic floor physio. That might help with the bladder irritation?
Are you taking the martazepine for the low mood/ anxiety?
I’m doing ok. I still get bouts of anxiety, but nothing compared to last year. Hot flushes bother me still… and the fatigue is still a problem. Libido is somewhere back in 2018 I think! Lol
-
lol @2018 libido !! Same here Suzy
I take amitryptiline for sleep now, it’s not bad, 25mg.
Somehow I get what I need to done. Life is a bit up and down anyway. I want to move further south, but got to wait for teens to finish education and I’m feeling like I want to upsticks now!
Loads to do on house before we can try and sell..
Life ! X
-
Maybe a higher dose of amitryptiline would help the anxiety?
It’s a trying time of life for sure!
We would love to spend time abroad, but have to wait until youngest is self sufficient and set up for independent life… might take a long while as he is autistic with learning difficulties.
