Hi everyone, can anyone relate to this. I haven’t had a bleed for just over 2 years & I feel as if I’m not coping at all. I thought things were supposed to become easier than when in peri menopause. I’ve been off work for 10 months now with symptoms of depression ( been given Fluoxetine & beta -blockers) anxiety, dizziness/off balance, fatigue, headaches, no interest in doing anything or wanting to go anywhere, if I push myself to eg go for a walk, do a little bit of gardening I feel worse for the next couple of days, body tingling, itchy dry skin & many more. I have asked for HRT but because I have multiple fibroids I’ve been refused as it will make them grow even bigger. I am due to go back to work on a phased return after Easter so hoping this might give me a bit more positive ness. Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you x

Has your GP referred to an appropriate Consultant? HRT can be delivered in several ways, mayB you need the fibroids removed? I would ring the surgery and ask for a referral.
Your symptoms may be depression; under active thyroid function; low VitD levels. Have U had blood tests in the last 6 months?
Don't push yourself, listen to your body.

Hi, have you noticed any of your symptoms occur after eating a meal ?
I had many of those symptoms after I had eaten and found that I had high histamine levels.
When I looked into it apparently women can become highly sensitive to histamine going through menopause. Since I removed high histamine and histamine releasing foods from my diet I've been feeling much better. There's lots of information about it out there if you wanted to find out more.

MayFlower: could you list what you have removed from your diet as I don't understand .........

Thank you for replying. I haven’t noticed any changes after eating but I suppose I’ve never really looked out for any or connected it to foods, I will keep an eye on that.
I broke down in tears about how I was feeling to my gp 3 weeks ago & she done blood test for everything including my vitamin levels. The only one which was low but not worryingly low was my vitamin D so she has put me on medication for that. When test come back fine I feel as if I’m wasting the doctors time or am I over reacting to these symptoms, but there awful & so draining all the time.i did see a gynaecologist about my fibroids about a year ago & he just said, your going through the menopause so they might shrink & then you’ll be fine, arrrrgh!!!!

U are NOT wasting anyone's time! It may be a few weeks to notice a difference with regards VitD levels. I take 3,2000IU daily.
Take half a day at a time. Delegate where possible ;-)

Hi Poppy
I’m sorry you’re feeling so rubbish. I completely sympathise.
Fibroids can be treated in a number of ways. The way in which they are treated depends entirely on which ones you have.
I think it’s not great that you’ve been told that is the reason you can’t have HRT straight off the bat.
You shouldn’t have to suffer when there are solutions.
First I’d ask your gp for another ultrasound scan to find out which type they are, how many and what size. All fibroids tend to be benign but they can be in the body of the uterus wall, growing in the lining or on stalks. They can be close to the cervix or even in some cases outside the uterus. Finding out which type you have is important.
Then you can decide on treatment if you want to. They can be removed or embolised. I had fibroid embolisation in 2013 which basically cuts their blood supply off and they die.
They are oestrogen fed unfortunately so they can grow back.
I took the decision to take HRT in 2017 and had to get to the stage where I was in a bit of a state before my gp let me have it. Which is not right. It was my choice.
The HRT I took really helped me get through my peri menopause and I don’t regret it at all.
Or you can go without HRT and you may find you don’t get a lot of symptoms or maybe they can be managed without hormones and wait for them to shrink after menopause and that again is up to you.
Sorry if I’ve gone on a bit about things you already know but thought it may help to know this.

Aww thanks so much ladies for your kind words & advice. I think I will go back to my gp to ask for a referral about my fibroids. When I had a scan last year I was told I had a multiple fibroid uterus with the biggest fibroid being 60mm. I told him then that I constantly felt heavy in that area & could have period pains even when I wasn’t having a period, that’s when he said I was menopausal & they should shrink in time & then I’ll be fine. But I’m 2 years now without a bleed & still feeling the same heaviness.

Get an appt to the appropriate consultant. Take a list with you, it may be that you have some form of endometriosis.
Let us know how you get on.

Histamine releasing foods such as tomatoes which I used to eat alot of, this means they cause the body to release histamine. High histamine foods are fermented foods, matured or ripened which because they are not fresh are high in histamine, foods like mature cheeses, smoked meats, tinned or processed foods and some fruits like bananas.
