Hello!
A newbie here! I'm almost 43 and having symptoms I'm worried about so please bear with me...its a bit of a story!
My periods have always been regular but painful...much more so in last year.
In January I had a normal period. But at the end I began to have a pain in my lower left side...it was very much like ovulation pain. It went away for a few days towards the end of my cycle. Then when my Feb period was due the pain was back and almost unbearable at one point (almost called an ambulance). 2 painful days later my period started. One day in the pain went and the bleeding became crazy heavy...for 12 hours. I called 111 and had to wait for a GP to call back. By the time one did, it had all calmed.
But after the period, the left pain came back. Sometimes pain, sometimes just tightness/discomfort but there almost every day. It went again for a few days before my next period, which, although painful, was normal.
But lo and behold. The pain or discomfort is back again...everyday...somedays very mild...some days needing a painkiller
I got to see my GP face to face last week finally. She did an examination and couldn't feel any problems but is sending me for a USS to be sure. She said, because I was freaking out, it is VERY unlikely to be anything serious.
She also put me on desogestrel and I already had naproxen for pain after the disastrous Feb period!
My hubby's cousin is a GP who thinks it's all perimenopausal (although agrees a scan is a good idea) and she said within a cycle or so the abdominal pain and discomfort situation should be settled by the desogestral.
I'm 7 days in to the desogestrel and still having the pain or discomfort. It's really driving me nuts. Weirdly I feel much better in myself. My emotions seem more in check, I'm more productive. But the abdominal problem is still causing me to worry.
I guess I just wondered if anyone else has had anything like this...and maybe a little reassurance!
Thanks for reading!

Periods can wax and wane in peri-menopause. Well done hubby's cousin! which can begin 10 years up to our last bleed. Some find it useful to keep a mood/food/symptom diary.
Various aches and pains may occur during these months.
I had heavy, clotty, very painful periods for years. The Pill helped a lot. As peri arrived the bleeds became less messy and painful.
Browse round. Make notes ;-).

It's good your local diagnostic team are going to take a look just in case you've got fibroids or cysts or something. If you have then they are treatable so try not to worry. It sounds like you have good back up in your own GP and your family in house GP. Hopefully you will narrow down what might be causing it soon and then you can get the right treatment sorted out. It sounds like the desogestrel is having some beneficent effect.
