Title: Has anyone experienced headaches and/or sinus issues as part of Prri?
Post by: Gilla999 on February 26, 2022, 11:35:12 AM
I've had a bit of a dip this week and I can't for the life of me work out why - thankfully my sleep (for once) has been OK, but I've felt highly emotional, absolutely exhausted, and had a permanent headache for the last 4 days now. Its at the top of my head sort of like a tense/pressure feeling and it goes down into my sinuses - so I feel like I'm blocked up but I'm not.

I know that something is going on because I've also had hypnic jerks for the last 3 nights when trying to sleep, which I only ever get when something internally is out of kilter (usually my hormones). It seems to all get worse as the day goes on and by the evening time I feel really quite ill. Has anyone experienced bad headaches or sinus problems as part of Peri?

Hi, yes I have I get the sinus thing that also causes my ears to feel blocked, it comes and goes absolutely no idea why, and for months now I keep getting headaches like you describe they also last all day for weeks on end, will disappear only to return again I keep blaming it on my hrt, but I don't think it is, its probably just another peri symptom, it's miserable I know, but I think unfortunately it quite common.

Thanks for the reply Amazing Grace - good to know I'm not alone with it! It's not a normal Peri symptom for me so have been wondering if it could be unrelated, but it's the addition of the hypnic jerks and overly emotional/weepy state that has made me feel like it's connected. Today is day 5 of this non stop headache - so rubbish!

Me too Gilla.

When this all started for me I was seen and tested by ENT because of my dizziness. They've washed their hands of me in that respect, but it was identified that I have chronic rhinitis and sinus issues.

I've had nose issues all my life, but now I'm awaiting surgery.

Guess what!? I've just realised mine flares with my hormones.  ::) I can't work out in what way, but here's what I i know:

Contraceptive pill - constant sinus issues.
On nothing - no sinus issues but suffer from full ears and migraines.
On progesterone only at present - just upped my dose dramatically and my sinuses have flared. Grrrrr

I would say a lot of my headaches feel like they start deep behind my nose... If that makes sense?!?!

Hi, if it would reassure you and it's out of the normal for you maybe consult your doctor, but given your other symptoms I'd say it's probably peri related, I had 9 straight weeks of daily headaches, they eventually disappeared, to resurface again, I too am on day 6 currently of a relentless headache, stiff neck too which a new one for me, the anxious side of me says I've got a brain tumour, but after years of this I know what it is, if mine go on much longer though think I will see the doctor, I agree it is very rubbish, hope you feel better soon.

Thanks ladies and Crispy yes I would also say it originates from deep behind the nose - I feel blocked up even though I'm not and this headache all across the top and back of my head is just relentless. I also have a constant dry mouth. Feeling less of the total exhaustion, emotional and weepy state today and without that and the hypnic jerks I probably wouldn't have thought it was hormone related at all. I was about to ask you if you could correlate it to any specific hormonal change but sounds like not.

Well, it's definitely correlated to a hormonal change - but which one? I don't know.  :(

I think it first reared its head at the beginning of all this... But I also had a blocked ear then too.

It defo presented badly with a high estrogen pill... But then always seened present no matter what pill I then tried. But defo been gone since stopping pills in Sept... Until 3 days ago. And yet my own estrogen problems have been prevalent since stopping. Can't figure it out. 🤷‍♀️

Try an over the counter (not on shelf) decongestant. Hold on... I'll go and look up the one I use. Sometimes it helps.

As a, side, my husband had terrible headaches after covid - the decongestant sorted him out in 2 days!

Thanks Crispy! I have tested a few times for Covid as thought of that, but all seems fine. Last night I finally started to feel it ease and this morning I haven't needed to take painkillers. Still feel a bit delicate but much better. I increased my Lenzetto to 3 sprays two days ago - I am absolutely sure that there was hormonal stuff going on, as the overly emotional/teary state has also gone with the increase in HRT, but whether the constant headache was something separate or connected I've no idea - it's a new symptom for me!

Thanks for all your help xxx
