Title: Captain Tom
Post by: Pennyfarthing on February 10, 2022, 10:07:35 AM
Just been reading that Captain Tom’s charity accounts are being scrutinised as they appear to show that it has paid out more in management costs (to his daughter and son in law) than to charity.

Such a lovely old man.  I wish things like this didn’t happen.

All Charities have to be scrutinised, some not deeply enough!  I am sure that this will sort itself.  All charities have 'staff' - I would have thought that they would for the reasons of clarity, have employed an independent advisor?

Could be they have an outside agency administering it.  No doubt they are expensive.

The press love to judge without the full facts.

Clarity is so important when large sums are collected in a short time. At least it is scrutinised, as a charity.  I hope they sort it all out soon.

Everything happened so quickly that they were probably scrambling to sort things out. When he started his goal was a tiny portion of the amount he actually raised, and with it being so high profile they probably want to ensure stuff is done properly.
The media will twist anything to get a reaction, which is sad!

It's happening with one of Prince Charles' charities too.
