I’m just so tired all the time. I could sleep all day. You know when you are so tired you could cry?
Is it a menopause symptom?
-
Could you be anaemic Suzy?
-
Or could it be low VitD levels and when did you have a thyroid function test?
Also I have busy, involved, long dreams that leave me knackered >:(
-
Hi Suzysheep !Yes ,this was one of my first main symptoms;not just tired, but fatigue so awful it's hard to put one foot in front of the other and a huge psychological effort to do any thing . Very weak and shakey climbing the stairs also ,so I sympathise with you .
Hrt has eventually helped ,but it takes at least 3 to 6 months to really feel a change .
It's best to get checked at docs &get blood tests also for anaemia ,low thyroid etc as other ladies have said to rule out other causes .
Are you on any hrt at the moment?
-
Sadly yes,it can be one of the many symptoms of meno, lethargy, always good to mention it next time you're at the Dr though,do you take supplements at all?
Yes, I take vitamin C, zinc and vitamin D3 and eat a good varied diet

I could be… but don’t think so….x

I take daily vit D in the winter months… and I had full bloods done about 4/5 months ago and everything was normal. X

I’ve had blood tested and everything normal.
I had a really bad experience with HRT, and I’m not ready to give it another go yet.. so just trying to manage my symptoms. This tiredness is a new one for… and like you everything is such an effort!
I’m so tired of being tired!!!

Hi Suzysheep. I can relate to the tiredness you are experiencing. I’ve tried several times to stop HRT because of the horrible side effects and one of the first symptoms that comes back is the debilitating fatigue that takes over my body. This disappears when I start taking the HRT again so I think perhaps yours could be caused by low oestrogen. I know you say you don’t want to try HRT again at this time and I understand that too after the horrendous time I’ve had and continue to have over the last few years but thought I’d just add my 5 penn’th to the mix. Sorry I can’t offer much help but hope you find something that helps soon.

I’ve not asked about ME or SAD jaypoo, I will though to rule everything out.
Rosie, I think I’m scarred for life after my HRT experience, I would really rather not have to try it again…. But this tiredness is awful.
I feel it’s hormonal though as my flushes have got worse again in frequency and severity.
-
My friend takes Coenzyme Q10 which she says helps with her tiredness. Might be worth a try x
-
Thanks, I’ll have a look into that one. X

Hello Suzysheep.
I think other ladies have reported crashing fatigue in the past so it may be worth searching the site using that description.
I haven't had this problem myself in meno but I do remember a similar experience when I was in the early stages of my first pregnancy. Definitely caused by hormones that time lol.
Take care.

I didn’t make the connection like that Kathleen…. Yes, I was very tired during pregnancy ( although I had hyperemesis … so it seems hormones are a big thing for me)
-
Yeah, be a bit careful going down the M.E. and route of those other, complex health conditions which could take a very long time to determine (M.E. is still only diagnosed by a process of elimination!) and still remain inconclusive. There are a few of us on here who have gone through years of misery and second mortgage equivalents on treatments for M.E., based on that "diagnosis", only to reach the conclusion that it is a hormonal and not viral response. By all means check everything out, of course, but don't jump to conclusions about anything. Get your hormone levels checked first. If your gp won't do it, ask for another gp or a referral to an NHS specialist clinic. I know there are mixed opinions on the value of bloods, but I'm convinced, certainly postmenopausally, they can provide a benchmark. Mine are through the floor which I wouldn't have known about otherwise! Good luck.

I remember Mum suddenly sitting down and falling asleep, she could be be in the middle of chores, even cooking tea!
-
Well the fatigue still persists.
I had bloods done and everything ok apart from vit D which I have been taking a higher dose for.
I’m not sure what to do about it now.
I also have a diagnosis of hEDS so don’t know how much that is affecting me. A specialist I spoke to seems to think it’s the reason behind my extreme reaction to the HRT I had.
I just want to feel normal again!

Hello again Suzysheep.
I am sorry that you are still suffering and I completely understand your frustration.
Is it Ehlers Danlos Syndrome that you have been diagnosed with? My neighbour has this and is considering HRT to tackle her long list of symptoms. I would love to pass on any information you have received from your specialist. There may also be other ladies on the forum who have relevant experience to share.
Hopefully this problem will resolve for you soon.
Take care and sending hugs.

Yes Kathleen, it’s ehlers danlos.
She basically said that as oestrogen is responsible for collagen production…. And EDS is a connective tissue disorder… so once the oestrogen starts to deplete a whole host of symptoms can rear their ugly heads.
When I said about my horrific experience with HRT she said it was ver common for EDS patients to be ultra sensitive and intolerant to hormones and medication etc.
-
Hello again Suzysheep.
Thank you so much for replying. My friend is keen to try HRT but I don't think she sees anyone about her EDS so your information is very helpful.
My friend is 55 and she was diagnosed with EDS in her early twenties. At the time her doctor told her that she would be in a wheelchair by the time she was forty. In fact she is one of the fittest and most active people I know!
Although she mentions her EDS occasionally I don't think it has had a huge impact on her life so perhaps lifestyle makes a difference with this condition.
I hope you get your fatigue problem sorted out soon and take care.

I woke rested 4 the 1st time in. months 8).

That’s great news CLKD :)
I have had a rough couple of days. Slept all afternoon and night Thursday. Literally hours upon hours! I thought I might be coming down with something… but then that’s how I always feel these days!
I’m so sick of feeling yuk all the time. I feel like a hypochondriac!
-
Hi Suzysheep
I suggest you get your cortisol and Dhea tested. This is done via a saliva test taken either 4 or 6 times a day. This is something you will have to pay for yourself but it’s easy to do and order online with companies such as medichecks or zrt labs.
You should also get a full thyroid panel test done.
Hope this helps xx

Nice easy article here from well respected thyroid specialist explaining the connection between fatigue, adrenals and thyroid.
It doesn’t all get sorted just with HRT!
For some it does and they’re the ladies who don’t need to come to this forum, but for the ones who are still struggling we need to look deeper.

Thankyou Marchlove…. I’ll have a read of that.
I had my thyroid level checked not long ago and although I just scraped through it was within normal range.
Spent another afternoon fast asleep. It’s not just a quick nap… I literally fall into deep sleep. I only stirred when my son came in from school.
