Title: Progesterone ‘rebound’ cyclical hrt
Post by: EmS on November 28, 2021, 08:38:59 PM
Hi, I’m on cyclical HRT, age 48, peri- menopausal, have felt generally much better since starting Utrogestan and Estradiol 3 months ago. But when I stop the Utrogestan after the 12 days, I get awful insomnia, for 3 nights, feel so awake and anxious at night. When I’m on the progesterone I sleep better than usual, but coming off it is a big problem!! Has anyone else had this?

Yes I found I slept much better on 200mg orally utrogeston continous, accompanying my two pumps of oestrogel. But after three months of this regime I started to put on weight and feel bloated and sluggish.

I have gone back to 100mg utrogeston but take it vaginally. Initially I had terrible insomnia again as my body adjusted to the lower progesterone dose, but I have found relaxation exercises at least get me off to sleep. I try not to worry about my sleep because when you dwell on it you actually make it worse by increasing adrenaline.
