What do you class as post menopause?

Peri are the years leading to the last monthly period i.e. menopause.  Which we are aware of eventually, after not having a period for 12 months.

If you put any symptoms that are bothersome into the search box, U should find threads relative.

There seems a concensus generally that postmenopause goes on for much longer than is thought and symptoms may be put down to ageing and subsequently go undetected or attended to. It's also a stage in life when issues can develop which may be emotional, subtexted by depleted hormones increasingly. For me, personally, a symptom search in isolation may not reflect what is going on in postmenopause. It feels like a separate stage, personally, each stage prior having its own continuum, possibly more readily "clinically" defined earlier on. Hope that clarifies, but others might be able to help with their take on postmenopause's differing challenges? Having a section just for postmenopause could prove a useful resource for those not there yet, too?

There is already a thread on this very topic  :-\

I have found that when searching, yes, you can find the symptoms that you are looking for,  but a lot of the posts are made by peri menopausal women, and those who are at the very start of their peri menopause, and so a lot is irrelevant to the post menopausal woman.  I, personally, would say that although I have found the site very helpful, I am in my 60s and definitely post menopausal, and have probably spent far more time reading through threads than I needed to.

If there was a board specifically for post menopausal women this would be very helpful, as those of us who are post menopause have very different experiences of symptoms and their effects than those who are having periods still.  Some may have not had any real issues until they have been well into the post menopause period of their lives, so a very different take on it than women who have suffered with symptoms for years or those who have a surgically induced menopause at an even younger age.

Do you mean "Padine" starting a thread CLKD? That's quite old now, if so and has lost momentum as naturally happens on here over time. Not sure what your issue is, really, but the point of this thread was to gauge interest of which there seems to be plenty. Hope that clears things up for you.

Surely, if it just a thread rather than a board this would mean reading through the whole thread - I speak as someone who has read through the whole Burning club thread!    If there was a separate board for the post menopausal then individual topics can be covered in different threads within that board, but specifically for the post menopausal,  and, in time , it would be just as beneficial as any of the other boards.

My understanding is that the remainder of our lives after final period constitutes "postmenopause", though the term seems to be used officially to mean the time beginning 12 months after final period.  We will be living with the consequences of lower levels of sex hormones for the rest of our lives.  Exchanging info on how we each deal with that as individuals seems to me invaluable & if a separate section of the forum will be helpful to some members it would be good to have that provision.  We can still continue to read/post in any section whatever side of final period we are  :).

https://www.medicinenet.com/postmenopause/definition.htm

"Postmenopause: The period of time after the menopause. The postmenopause is formally defined as the time after which a woman has experienced twelve (12) consecutive months of amenorrhea (lack of menstruation) without a period.

The average length of the postmenopause has been increasing. With greater longevity, a woman will soon be postmenopausal on the average a third of her life."

Thanks, really helpful and useful points. The other thread got a bit muddled with everyone weighing up pros and cons based on the initial content, I imagine. I just aimed to simplify things right down with this thread, yay or nay and then I'd be delighted to flag it up to Emma and Dr. Currie can take it forward as was going to happen previously. If, however, anyone else wants to take it to those who can make it happen, that's, of course, fine too! 😊

There are currently 14 boards. I'm not against a post meno board but could we swap it for another one? Looking through all of them is too time consuming and that will get worse with an additional one.
Can we have a 'swap' as well as yay or nay?

Postmeno3, do you think that when a woman is well in postmeno, she can develop emotional issues?  If that's the case then it would be a lot worse than peri.  I see the menopause as a phase and I am nearly 2 years postmeno and I'm beginning to feel better emotionally.  I can't bear thinking that my emotional/mental health will decline, say, 5 years down the line, simply because my orstrogen level is depleted.  By this time I do hope that my body will have fully adjusted to its new oestrogen level.   If I was to develop emotional/mental health issues later on then life would be pretty awful.  I really hope this won't be the case.  I know a few ladies who are well in the postmeno years and they are doing absolutely fine.  The menopause is a natural stage in a woman's life which cannot  be avoided but it shouldn't be seen as a life sentence.

Sheila99....just let us know what's needing swapped if I read you right? That would be great, thanks.
KarineT....thanks for posting. I was very careful indeed to say that issues CAN develop and MAY be emotional due to hormone depletion, so I'm sorry if that felt inaccurate in some way for you. I don't think anyone is seeing this stage as a "life sentence", but one which might be helped, should later issues develop, with the likes of a board devoted to any challenges arising for those to whom concern or curiosity applies.

This would be a great idea. I'm post meno & although this site has helped me enormously there isn't much for me anymore apart from offering my support to the younger members who are just starting their journey.
I suffer from Litchen Sclorosis, V.A. but still being supported by a great doctor who allows me to continue taking HRT with regular check ups.
I've had several scares in the last year (polyps, PMB etc) and got through it but it didn't feel right coming here for support or advice as it's more for the menopause - but I still feel there could be a place for the likes of me.

Hopefully Emma can help us & get it set up.

I'll be watching.  8) 8)

Hi Postmeno3 - have you had any feedback from Emma recently?
I'm just concerned this might get buried away & drops off the front pages.
I know we now have 2 threads suggesting a designated board so it's clearly well supported.

I haven't heard anything, no, but I had said that I'm pretty snowed under with selling my home and visiting family and also that it's best as a "community" effort rather than just me. I suppose anyone is free to contact Emma for an update as there sure is masses of interest. Like you, though, I'd hate to see that get buried. That's what happened with the first thread.....🤞

Yes definitely! Personally I think two different sections ie Peri-Menopause and Post-Menopause would be more useful than 'All Menopause' and 'Personal Experiences'

Is there one and if there is, where is it??? There should be as there will be a majority of ladies of a certain age  ;) >:( :o (me included) who have nagging symptoms they would like to ' discuss"  and Dr's dont seem to be that interested sadly...........:O)
I'd like to know if digestive issues are the norm or do they simply go away - EVENTUALLY....
If you stop HRT can you just decided to retake it again?
Will there be "consequences" if you do?
Do others just go off food or just react to foods they used to be able to eat but now cant????
Plus many other problems?
My periods stopped when I was 59 then I spent 4 years with no symptoms but then all of a sudden they ganged together and bit me on the ass and I felt like I had "got away with it"!
Its all Utter, utter rubbish

I was totally ignorant of any conditions associated with post menopause, I naively assumed that once I had got to that stage, hurray it was all over!!
How very wrong was I and because of my experience I would say, don't forget the women that are at the other end of this horror because it continues.

So yes, definitely a need on here for a Post Menopause section.

I'm new to this website and I have to say that it lacks input from the admins. Its a bit like a celebrity posting on Twitter, celebrity does a runner while their millions of followers reply and argue the toss with each other. Just saying!!

But thanks all to the wonderful contributors on here that give a damn about the menopause, forever thankful to you all  :)

I think it would be very helpful to have a dedicated post menopause section on here.

I have found my HRT needs have changed post menopause and it would be good for women to be able to fast track to the relevant information.

It's a whole new beginning when you think its all over, it isn't!

Hate being a doom monger but if I had known about my postmenopause condition I would have been forewarned and sought treatment sooner instead of assuming 'Thrush' again, it never was!  But I am getting the correct treatment now and will update on how its going on this postmenopause thread.
