How much information do I need to take off and how :-\ if I donate my mobile phone and what do charities do with them other than extract the rare metals etc.?
-
Depends on the phone. There is loads of info on what to do if you Google 'wiping old mobile phones'
Are you getting a new one? :D
Taz x
-
;D. nope - even though it's That Time of Year ;D
:thankyou:
I looked at more up2date mobiles and none fit in my back pockets.
-
The iPhone will definitely fit in your back pocket and it’s the easiest thing in the world to use.
-
Not the 1 DH and I tried to fit last week ::). It stuck out too far above the pocket so could easily be taken. Then I would be in a muddle wondering where I had left it ;D and I don't need a new one even though
Christmas is looming.
-
That's why I stick to my 15 year old Nokia basic mobile, fits in a front pocket. The smart phone stays on the table at home.
-
I am old enough to remember bricks ;D
-
I’ve got a new iPhone and it’s considerably bigger than my old one. No chance of putting it in my tight jeans pocket, so had to resort to a small shoulder bag when out walking in warm weather. Coat pockets are bigger.
-
If we’re talking about Jeans pockets I wouldn’t get any phone in, can’t even get a tissue in ;D
-

Long before they were common we had on for out of hours support at work. Bigger and heavier than a brick, you didn't voluntarily go for a walk with it. Known as the lugaphone.
There's more processing power and storage in a mobile phone than there was in an entire room of the early computers.
-
There was an item on TV recently about the rooms in Bletchley Park .......... Enigma and all that. Walls and walls of computers!
I remember when there was no saving facility on computers, if 1 over wrote a sentence it was lost. Forever :o
We have cameras in the cars, a thingy that tells us maps and directions (can't remember the name :-\) as well as paper maps, well worn.
-
My sister did a degree in computer science and data processing in the early 70s. A computer took up a room! When she took time out from work, she would had to retrain as technology had and is moving so quickly.
-
And to think, the country would grind to a halt now without them.
-
Would it though? I suppose we should keep a list of regularly used numbers/addresses/e-mails 4 when this happens. Gigaclear keeps going 'down' in this area, usually from 6.30 on a Friday night ::).
If we disappear, it's been nice chatting 8). I will miss you all.
Think of a few weeks ago when Facebook et al went down, it took about 6 hours to reconnect. What on Earth did people do ;D
-
It wouldn’t be a problem if social media went down but it would be if the computer network did. I saw a programme a while back about how the country runs on computers, it was staggering how we rely on them now.

Go to settinga and do a factory reset. That'll get rid of everything.
-
:thankyou: that's too technical ;D
My battery on the mobile I love so much died suddenly. Again >:( so off to Stressco for a new model, Motorola. I can switch it on, I have managed to put some details in the phone book 'cos it didn't transfer with the sim >:( >:(
I've sent a text to my sister - don't know how to retrieve one ::) and managed to Phone A Friend :o who answered immediately . I've switched it off now. The screen is Oh So Sensitive :bang:
-
DH :-* :ange: has found my 'records' so I have been able to take down most of the phone numbers that I require :-)))). I may recognise the ring tone by, probably, C.mas - though not sure which 1 that would be ;D. I don't know yet if it blinks when I get a call but don't hear it ringing :-\.
Crikey. Who knew a block of plastic could be so difficult to live with :D
-
Mine won't send messages >:(. I also have fat finger problems :(
It's on Gmail now via Tesco :-\
-
If it’s Tesco it will be using the O2 network
-
It says on the top Gmail :-\ however. I will be typing and the message disappears :o. I was ages finding the messages stored on the SIM .......... sometimes I hover over the keypad and something types, all by itself >:(. I might find it funny. In about 10 year's time :(
We found out that it had automatically put "44" in front of many of my saved numbers! So I've removed the 44 and put an "0" in front and thus far ..........
-
We have a Gremlin - I walked into the lounge this morning to see my mobile switching itself on :o. By itself ............
-
I never switch mine off
Taz x :-\
-
I won't have mine on in the night in case it bleeps ;D
Also it saves on the battery Life to give it a rest.
I await with interest to see whether it switches on in the morning :-\
-
I switch the notification sounds off overnight and that's when I also put it on charge. :)
-
I just leave mine on 24/7. Don’t think I’ve ever switched it off.
-
At least it didn't switch itself on this morning ;D
Apparently it was pre-programmed to switch on/off so DH disabled that!
-
I have fat finger problems >:(. I don't think that I will ever get completely used to it. I still like the colour :D
What do others carry their bricks in? It fits in a pocket of my handbag and I can close the zip. Otherwise, it's a phaff. I can't carry it into the garden in case I put it down!

Back pocket of my jeans :)
-
My pockets aren't long enough ::). It could be snatched when in town or lost in the undergrowth of our garden should it fall out :D
-
Not in town obviously but around the house or in the garden mine does stay put. Actually I haven't been to town since lockdown. :o
-
Will there be any shops left to visit :-\
I have dainty back pockets :whist:

That's why the smart phone stays on the table at home. The 15 year old Nokia fits in the front pocket of my jeans so is the one that's always with me.
-
The battery in my smaller mobile failed. ::)
-
Another advantage of basic phones, you can replace the battery. Got one for mine from ebay a couple of years ago.
-
DH replaced the battery 2 years ago but it didn't hold the charge for long. It would switch off when 'half' full ::).

I need my smart phone with me for Google Maps and paying for my wine in the pub ;D
-
Is that the map required to wander home after a good evening out ? ;)
-
Doesn't work well so we'll when you hold it upside down :drunk:
-
Is that the map required to wander home after a good evening out ? ;)
No I know my way back from the pub even through the forest in the dark (not often though!) Maps is for those other places :D
-
In the DARK :o at *this* time of year - Whose Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf, The Big Bad Wolf :whist:
Of course, mobiles now have a torch facility: I found mine by accident the other day ::). It gives good light in the house, outside - I wonder :-\
-
Any idea why my phone won't accept texts from a few numbers: most regulars I can 'chat' with, however: If DH and a friend try to text my number, it doesn't get through :-\ and my phone doesn't let me know >:(
It's been updated .......... we've down loaded the manual ......... any1 know a 5 year old ;D
-

I wonder if it is to due with the text message settings. Perhaps you have accidently restricted some people from texting you.
-
That was a thought, however: strangely it's men that can't get through :o ;D. Regular people who text aren't having problems and we've been through the settings ...... hey ho! will drop by a shop when next in town.

I hope the shop can sort it out for you. :)

If I lived on the coast it would be in the sea by now ;D
-
I Must Go Down To The Sea Again .....Spike Milligan
I must go down to the sea again,
to the lonely sea and the sky;
I left my shoes and socks there
I wonder if they're dry?
-
;D. even though I can't stand the man :-X
-
I can still remember the John Masefield version from an English lesson nearly 50 years ago (example of alliteration)
To the gull's way and the whale's way
Where the wind's like a whetted knife.
How sad am I??
-
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing, fellow rover
Taz x ;D
-
You've lost me, well and truly :o however: DH sent a text to my number and it connected :-* 8)
-
Well - we think the problem was vodaphone being 'down' as every1 else could send/receive texts. Except DH and a friend ::)
