Hopeing someone can help me doctor has changed me to Ovestin from vagifem she says I need to change as I have been on vagifem too long (2 yeras) but she has only given me 1 tube and has told me it should last me 15 weeks, is this right as will be using twice a week , i am in the processe of looking for a new doctor as she is an idiot
-
She's talking rubbish! Ring and ask where she gets her ideas from . 'vagifem' or 'ovestin' can be used for LIFE, nightly if required.
Has the 'vagifem' eased symptoms 4 U? 1 tube to last 15 weeks, that's over 3 months :-\
Change your GP oh I see you are trying to ? or send a PM to Dr Currie who began MM . That would give you something firm to wave at any1 not up2date with NICE guidelines.
How is that that GPs still DON'T GET IT :bang: is there a nurse practitioner that you could speak to until you change Surgeries?
-
I get on OK with 'ovestin' ;) and if I get the urge2P feeiings, take 2 'nurofen' 3 times a day to ease symptoms.
-
CLKD i have printed stuff of ans showen it to her but she is having non of it I was fine on vagifem but don't mind the Ovestin it just that she is adamant that I will o my need 1 tube every 15 weeks as her words it's a 15 g tube but surely if using twice a week it will only last 7.5 weeks or am I working it out wrong
-
U may need a top up occasionally too.
What planet is this GP on ? Her time will come ;D - hopefully: but seriously - she needs reporting to Dr Currie - hence my suggestion that you pay for an e-mail reponse to back up your requirements.
U could also join the private Facebook group for VA ....... which will give you some backing and advice.
-
Thanks CLKD for your help, going to try and speak to practice manager tomorrow 're putting in a complaint but I am still going to look for new doctor
-
Wow Opal you have an idiot for a GP! My GP said quite adamantly that I will be on Vagifem FOR LIFE. No question....
-
1 tube of Ovestin to last 15 weeks is really inadequate! I would have thought you'd need 1 a month, which is what I get, as well as Vagifem.
I did have to push for that though, on the grounds that Vagifem attaches up high near the bladder and Ovestin for the urethra and outer bits.
Good luck with all this🤞It is a crime how poorly - served us ladies are by gps in this regard.
-
Ask for a referral to a menopause clinic: not a gynaecologist as they often don't know much about HRT - your local hospital may have a dedicated menopause clinic.
-
In theory the tube should last 15 weeks. The applicator holds 0.5g and the tube is 15g. That gives you 30 applications used twice a week is 15 weeks. However, realistically that doesn't happen, i have 2 tubes, 30g every 6 weeks and use every night.
-
I ended up seeing an idiot gynae who apparantly had an interes in the menopause. He told me that i was over using Vagifem, i had only been on it a few months. I ended up going private in the end and now make sure if i need a HRT review that i speak to the one GP in my practice who seems to listen and prescribe what i need. I dread the day he retires!
I use Vagifem every night and have done for about 4 years now, the meno specialist said it was quite safe, got her to write that in letter to surgery after i saw her.

So the message ain't getting through is it >:(

Hi Ladies just a little update, I called this morning and spoke to the practice manager she seemed very surprised when I spoke to her she looked at my notes and the doctor had written that I would have to come off all hrt as in 6 months’ time ( doctor never mentioned this to me ) Practice manager arranged a tele consultation with the head of the practice which I have just had and I have been moved on to his list I am back on vagifem and ovestin for external use and he has advised me to use as much as makes me comfortable and he said he will be dealing with the other doctor. I am so relieved as try to find another doctor with the way appointments are at the moment I was not looking forward to
-
OH! well done U :medal: - hopefully the particular GP will be called over the coals; sacked or sent on a Course regarding menopause?
One can take HRT for Life if necessary as long as there are no serious health issues.
Tnx for the update! Bet you feel relieved!
-
CLKD, I do I dont want anyone to get the sack but even other things I have seen her about her doctoring is questionable
-
👏👏👏good for you. I am stunned that some GP'S treat women like children! I would love to see these same GP'S tell a man he can't have Viagra as he has been on it too long! Ya like THAT would happen.
-
-
What a relief and so much unnecessary stress caused by this incompetant doctor. Glad you're sorted now.
-
Congratulations Opal. I'm impressed that the practice manager took your complaint so seriously and took prompt action.
Can you imagine if we had a thread for 'Stupid things GPs have said to us about HRT'? It would crash the site!
-
;D All the same Jasmine20, I think we might start one!
