my menopause consultant wont prescribe androfemme for me?
hi girls, i find this very annoying after paying for all my consultations that my consultant wont prescribe testosterone for me, she says i don't need it. I really feel I do.
my gp said she cannot prescribe it as its off license and to speak to my consultant. I am based in south of ireland. any ideas on how I can get it please x

Hopefully there will be someone here who can answer your question, but in the meantime I can tell you that there are ladies from the south of Ireland in the Vaginal Atrophy Facebook support group, and also in Diane Danzebrink's Menopause Support Network. Both these Facebook groups are private. I am sure if you apply to join, someone could help re obtaining TRT in Ireland.

Some consultants won't prescribe which puts GPs in a difficult position. Do U keep a mood/food/symptom diary to chart progress, something to discuss with your GP?
MayB put 'androfemme' into the search box on here to see what pops up?

I live in the West of Ireland and I asked my doctor if she would prescribe testosterone because I had read good thing's about it ( blame Davinia McCall ) she tested my levels and they were quite low but then I changed my mind straightaway once she warned me of side effects like enlargement of clitoris, deepening of my voice and baldness - and that's irreversible. She wasn't trying to put me off, she's a lovely young woman. She would have prescribed it if I'd have wanted to go ahead. Maybe you should change your Doctor if you are adamant you need it..

I was told that my voice would lower but apparently that's not true. Perhaps those using testosterone will be along with their experiences. I already have a hairy chin and top lip >:(

Carol, with the minute dose of testosterone that you would have been taking, none of those side effects would have occurred. I have used Testogel for a couple of years and nothing untoward has happened. You can read about the benefits of testosterone replacement on Dr Louise Newson's website My Menopause Doctor.

Joaniepat,
Thanks for that information. I wanted it for my moods and energy, can you just take a minute dose of testosterone and nothing else ? I posted something earlier today about hair loss and Livial and ever since I experienced my hair shedding rapidly it has put me off HRT altogether. How is your hair on testosterone, has it made any difference to your hair at all ?

:thankyou: Joaniepat
Carol - I replied to your other thread a few moments ago ;-)

Carol, as far as I know testosterone would not be prescribed on its own and they normally want you to have your oestrogen levels optimised first. My hair seems to be unchanged since I started it, no excess shedding or anything like that.
I'm so sorry to hear about your hair shedding, that must be very distressing for you. (I see you have another thread on it, which I haven't read yet.)

Hi Livial is Tibolene and is classed as an alternative tablet )see NHS website. (It’s not available in the USA) it mimics all 3 hormones oestrogen/ progesterone/ and an androgen (testosterone) I did a lot of research in it. So perhaps the tablet in itself will optimise your androgen side rather than having testosterone? Xx
