Title: Spotting after replacing patch before due date . Help as worried.
Post by: lynnietodd on August 02, 2021, 11:01:19 AM
I've been on Evorel Sequi for 7months. Had quite a bit of spotting until month 4 and got withdrawal bleeds too. Between 5 -7 months no withdrawal bleed . Last week I had to replace the conti and Evorel 50 patch as they had come unstuck . I prob had each patch on for over a day before I replaced it with a fresh one . Since then I've had some spotting a worried . I suffer health anxiety and worried it's something sinister . I'm hoping it's just because I've got a hormone imbalance. Before I went on HRT I had pretty regular periods .
Any advice would be much appreciated xx

Hormones!  Do U keep a mood/symptom/food diary, some find it useful to chart progress.

What colour is the spotting?   Our hormones are up and down without HRT.  Were you getting some relief ?

It's red colour .. it honestly feels like it's my natural menstrual cycle has overridden the hrt cycle . X

Hi lynnietodd. Do you mean you had to replace a patch twice in the same month as you mention having to replace both patches?

Yes , twice in same month .. do you think this is why ? X

The conti one could give spotting if not firmly stuck so try not to worry. It's a nuisance when patches come unstuck although I've found Evorel to be one of the better ones for sticking. Do they come unstuck often?

I'm normally great with them but think the sun , sea and suntan lotion didn't help . So you think don't worry ? Hopefully settle next month xx

Don't worry unless this continues for several months.

Making sure that the are is absolutely dry is important, patches are known for not sticking  ::).  Put the patch on and hold it to the skin for a while.

Blood which is red is fresh so it's a mix of the patch and your own hormones probably.

Sun sea suntan lotion sounds wonderful and worth the unstuck patches! I'd say see how it goes over the next month.

Thank you everyone, I'm also maybe thinking it could maybe be my withdrawal bleed . Although that would be starting on 2nd Evorel 50 patch ... mine normally first Evorel patch of new box .
My rationale head thinks it's all just due to hormone imbalance but my health anxiety voice saying it's something sinister . I hate health anxiety 😥 xx

Heatlh anxiety can rise during peri-menopause.  Everything becomes huge and fatal  ::).  Especially as many are juggling Life skills: ageing parents, the school run, teen angst, husband's job ........... 'me' time becomes important  ;)

Still spotting ( day 5) , I'm really trying not too worry but I'm struggling.
Do you think the spotting is something sinister or due to patch replacement on wrong days or my own natural cycle kicking in ?? My anxiety not great today  :'( xx

Probably due to an alteration in hormone levels ..........

Thank you CKLD ,
Rationally I think that's what's happening but still can't stop worrying. Everything had been going well until now .. can't stop the what ifs 😥😥xx

Yep.  Anything out of the ordinary: should I go to the GP/not : especially with lack of face2face consults at Surgeries.  It's probably 'within normal limits' for the regime you are on.  Have you put the name of the product into the search box ?

Yeah I have searched it .. I've also looked at patient info leaflet and says breakthrough bleeding can be side effect if forget to change patch or take too much .. reading between lines I think I might fall into this ?????

Think I'm loosing my mind .. I've now convinced myself that the bleeding is due to some sort of cancer . I feel I've also period pain too . I even tried to message Dr Louise Newson but was told I need to be a patient before they advise and I can't afford that . I just need a person in the know to advise me if my unscheduled bleeding is not to be worrying about . I'm sorry for being like this xx

You had a scan in January which was clear I think. Why were you referred for a scan? Was it because you hadn't had any withdrawal bleeds over the past few months or for another reason? If the scan was clear then it seems highly unlikely that the spotting would be caused by anything sinister... take a breath and try to think about it logically... hard I know but these things can become overwhelming.

Thank you Taz,
I had scan in jan as was again super worried as had a mid cycle spotting episode prior to starting HRT . I had a normal smear in Nov too but think my doctor just wanted to reassure me as she knew how anxious I was due to my health anxiety. She didn't think there was anything to worry about and said it was probably due to hormone but sent me for scan to reassure me . I'm going to really try today to keep things in perspective. Xx

Hi ,
Still having little bits of spotting.. 12 days now .. some days been hardly noticeable. I'm trying so hard not to worry . I'm trying to think rationally and hope it's just because of the patch mix up and maybe my own hormones also kicking in .
Is that what I should be thinking?
Thank you xxx
