Hi, thanks in advance for your help, for almost five years my period has been getting more and more irregular, very early, very late, a few months here and there of normality then off again. This is after them always being very regular and predictable.
I turned fifty this year. The past ten to twelve months the gaps have been growing longer and then I missed two between May and twelve days ago. I've been bleeding ever since. The first few days were light, but since then it got so heavy I've not been able to go to work over the weekend. This morning it's starting to slow down gradually.
I know this is probably normal but I feel like my whole knowledge about periods has just gone out the window. The one person whom I really want to talk this through with, my mum, is no longer with us.
Basically I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself.

Sorry you're feeling so down Berenice. Peri meno is tricky, sensible advice from GPs is often sadly lacking even when they're female. There will be plenty of women on here who will talk things through with you.
Oh BTW welcome to the forum :welcomemm:

Not unusual I'm afraid, there can be more build up when you miss periods. If you have excessive bleeding you should get checked out though as you could have a fibroid or polyp.

Thanks both for your replies. Day 13 and it's finally slowing down x

Hi Bernice! Maybe you could speak to your doctor? I was in a similar situation - basically had a three-week long period, got fed up, went to my gp and she gave me some stuff - tranexamic acid, I think it was called.
That put an end to the bleeding and was my last period.

I'll see how it goes over the next month or so and make a decision about seeing a doctor from what happens next. I think it might finally have stopped at last.
