Title: Post-hysterectomy
Post by: Nedsmum on July 08, 2021, 09:24:04 PM
Hi, just after advice from like minded people. I had a sub total hysterectomy 8 years ago (age 42) and have been having menopause symptoms for 7 years now. For the last 2-3 months, the symptoms have been ramping up. Pretty fed up with it to be honest! The night sweats are shockers, most nights I only get 4-5 hours broken sleep a night, zero sex drive, zero tolerance for most things, and the aches in my joints...
So I am wondering if anyone else has the same. I am hoping the sudden increase in the symptoms means I am in the home straight and this mare will soon be over! Obviously no periods/bleeding so have no way to know what might be happening.

Hey  :)

I’m not sure menopause symptoms have a timeline so can’t advise on how long you'll carry on experiencing them.
I think it comes down to whether you’re prepared to put up with symptoms or not.

I wasn’t and they were also affecting the quality of my life, so it’s HRT for me  :D

Hi, I had a partial hysterectomy 12 years ago but meno didn't hit until about 8 years ago, I don't suffer quite as much now as I used to but the flushes are still here but nowhere nearly as bad

Hi Nedsmum. It sounds as if your meno symptoms are about on track for your age. I also experienced hot flushes etc from around 51. They are often the first sign (along with erratic periods) that menopause is beginning. From my experience I would say this is the start not the end as the symptoms can last for quite a few years. I started HRT at the age of 53 (I'm 67 now and still on it) as I could no longer put up with the sweats and lack of sleep. I never Intended to use HRT as I was in the 'mind over matter' way of thinking but I'm so glad I did as it gave me my quality of life back. It's a personal choice but maybe consider it if things are getting difficult?
