I would be very interested to know if any of you have experienced what I am going through after having both jabs of AstraZeneca. I am on Evorel Conti I started on it many years ago primarily for hot flushes and night sweats which I have had none.. but since having both my AZ jabs the night sweats have returned, I have heard that AZ can cause overheating? I would be most grateful to know if anyone else here is having any problems with this or worsening aching joints etc..
-
Thanks Jaypo.. it is starting to look that way :(
-
That is interesting, my teen daughter has just had her second Pfizer, as she is under 18, but she has been complaining about getting night sweats since the first one.
-
Hi Tinkerbell, from what info I have been gathering, it would appear that it is also causing women to have heavier periods shortly after their shots, it looks as though it is hormone related..
-
Do report any symptoms on the Yellow Card scheme, this is so new that any information can garner research so that we know much more.
-
I have already reported it to them.. this definitely needs looking into.
-
Really makes you wonder doesn't it?
-
Hi purple bee, I too use Evorel Conti . Ten days after having my first AZ vaccine in March I noticed a few hot sweats but they disappeared again after a week or so. However, the joint and muscle aches I had previously suffered with before starting on hrt five years ago returned, along with anxiety and more frequent urination. This carried on until my second jab and again, ten days after this one I noticed a ramping up of the symptoms that had returned since my first shot. Along with those I noticed my bladder felt sore and under pressure and my insomnia returned.
According to my doctor I’m suffering from over active bladder due to my age and my age is why I’ve got the other symptoms. 😡 He wants to prescribe medication.
Anyway I’ve upped my hrt dosage for a few weeks to see what happens, so far it’s helping with the anxiety, insomnia, joint and muscle pains etc but my bladder is still a little “ off”. I’m taking ibuprofen and that seems to be helping with the urine urge and frequency.
I know my body and I was perfectly fine before having the vaccine, so I’m convinced it’s caused my hrt patch to become less effective somehow. I’m just hoping things will regulate again in the near future.
COVID causes inflammation throughout the body and I’m wondering if the vaccine is causing a bit of inflammation of my bladder? No use asking my doctor as he won’t listen.
-
It may be that your hormones are over-riding the HRT.
As for bladder issues, do read the thread as well as the Vaginal Atrophy thread on the Forum. You may well need localised 'vagifem' or 'ovestin'.
-
What an interesting thread. I'd just posted for the first time yesterday and had not put 2 and 2 together than my night sweats, anxiety have increased since my first AZ jag. I've also developed very achy joints over the last 4 - 6 weeks, and I've never had that before. I wonder what evidence is being gathered about hormonal type side-effects from the AZ jag? Also I'm due my second jag next week... :-\
UPDATE - now post second jag - no further changes but no better night sweats or achy joints wise. HRT increased but so far no changes to physical symptoms - just reported via Yellow card scheme.
-
You’ll have to let us know if your symptoms worsen or if you develop more after your second shot Valybobs.
So far I’ve only heard about research being done into younger women and the menstrual irregularities that some have experienced after the AZ vaccine... nothing about menopausal and post menopausal women on hrt. I have contacted Tim Spector from the Zoe COVID tracker app but whether anything is done remains to be seen.
Yes CLKD I am using Vagifem again as well, I just hope this is all a temporary glitch and things return to normal. This is one reason why I don’t want to change to another hrt regime right now.
-
From what I have been reading, it would seem that it is affecting women in different ways. I also 'know' my body and I have more aches and pains than usual, extremely fatigued and itchy sore eyes too. All these are listed as side effects. But the night sweats are a problem. I'm glad you have asked Tim Specter, I am a member of ZOE and they have done some amazing work. Please let me know if he replies.

linz57 - 'vagifem' treatment is for Life.
-
This is interesting. I too have had a return of symptoms and started to get numerous hot flashes and was feeling that the HRT was no longer working as well. I had my 2nd vaccine 3 weeks ago and hadn't considered it could be related. Hopefully if it is, it will setlle for all of us.
-
linz57 - 'vagifem' treatment is for Life.
Yes, but the thing is I haven’t needed it during the five years I’ve been on the conti patches. It’s only since the symptoms have returned following vaccination that I’ve had to use Vagifem alongside the patch.
-
I had a return of symptoms after my first AZ jab not hot flushes though but they weren't a problem for me pre hrt. It lasted about a month. Just had my second one today so I'm waiting to see if it happens again.
-
This is strange!
I had been on top of my symptoms for past 2 yrs but I had my second vaccine Pfizer 4 weeks ago and hot flushes, anxiety, feeling unwell, tearing all came back with a vengeance. I restarted HRT this week I felt so bad. Wonder if there is anything in it?
-
I just had my 2nd AZ and felt waves of heat for a few days. Feel hot and sweaty after walk too but not sure its AZ related.
-
2nd AZ jab yesterday. Return of joint pain today and my version of hot flushes which only happen after a hot drink etc. No sign of anxiety and insomnia yet.
-
Hi this is really interesting. I’ve had both AZ vaccines and use evorel conti, night sweats have returned and body temperature all over the place during day as well. I never for a moment considered it could be related to the vaccine. Thank you for posting and all comments as very helpful.
-
I'm not on HRT (53 years old and last period 6 months ago) and have been experiencing night sweats on and off for years but generally not too bad. I had my 1st AZ jab in March and have had terrible sweats since then. Worse than I've experienced before. Also my anxiety has been terrible since the jab but not sure if this is just because I'm looking for symptoms. I also developed a twitchy eyelid the side of the jab about 1 hour after having it although that is now settling but also what felt like a numb side of face and neural buzzing in my arm (again side of jab). These settled after the 1st one and I had my 2nd 10 days ago and the buzzing and neural pain seems to have come back (and the sweats are still there). I'm hoping it will settle down. It's hard to know what is just normal menopausal symptoms or whether it's been caused/exacerbated by the jab.
-
My meno symptoms lasted about a month following the first jab. You're at a stage in your life when you could reasonably expect symptoms to get worse anyway so IMO more likely to be that rather than the jab. I would have expected them to settled by now if it was jab related.
-
Had my 2nd AZ jab 2 weeks ago and started with night sweats again, this happened with the 1st jab also.. Never had night sweats during peri menopause and only a few in post but nothing for years. This drug definately as an effect on hormones.
-
I had my second Pfizer jab at the end of April and a week later got really scary very fast heart beat, panic attacks. huge anxiety, insomnia and cold sweats, fatigue, painful muscles and joints. I had a mild reaction on the first jab but the effects from the second jab lasted 12 weeks and I am still not right. I have absolutely no doubt it was the jab that caused it all.
-
Hi pippa, Re your vaccine and side effects, how are you now please? as I too have had these and it has been awful 5 months on, still some there? Would love to hear how u you are getting on? Thanks x
-
Sorry ladies to post again but please can someone reply to me Tk you!
I am so struggling. I had a horrendous time a year ago and was finally sorted on my little Estrogen tablet it was heaven. Then I got my Pfizer jab in March and it has been truly hell.
I have had my tablet increased and it has helped a bit but still everyday a struggle. Just wanted to hear a little reassurance that this will subside❤️
Please I would so appreciate your replies xx

Sweettooth
I had my second vaccine AZ in June a few weeks after the jab my menopause symptoms returned. I’m on Femeston conti and had been symptom free for a good few years.
I’ve had sweats, low mood, bladder issues and anxiety just like before I started HRT. Things are improving at last hopefully 🙏 mood ok, sweats gone and I’ve upped the Vagifem, still a bit of morning anxiety but once I’m up and dressed it’s much better.
I remained on Femeston as didn’t want to start trying other things because it’s the only one I tried that worked for me. It’s taken me about 3 months from the return of symptoms to start feeling reasonably ok again, it’s been a slow process but I’m getting there. I do believe it was the vaccine that caused it and my GP agreed it could well have been but they can’t say for sure.
I will not be getting the booster in case it happens again.
Hopefully things will calm down for you as it’s horrible to have returning symptoms after being fine beforehand.
-
Thanks you Mars for your kind reply! I’m so pleased to hear that you are improving, it must be such a relief.
I’m 5 months on since mine and my Estrogen tablet has been increased which seemed to help for a while but stops. The night time sweats and palps have eased but the morning anx and adrenaline are there and now some v low moods crying etc.
I have my apt in 2 weeks time again. So confused and just don’t know what else can be done?
My Meno all returned within days of the vaccine so it has to be that.
It’s awful isn’t it? Xxxx

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-58573593
Seems BBC have picked up on it, although not necessarily on women and return/increase of menopause symptoms...
-
5 months seems a very long time to be suffering from vaccine side effects. What dose oestrogen are you on and where are you in your meno journey? My AZ side effects lasted a month, have you found anything that says Pfizer can last 5 months? It could just be coincidence.
-
...I too put up a thread earlier in the month about this as many of my friends noticed an increase/return of sweats, anxiety etc after the jab...we were discussing it one day as each one of us thought we were the only one...and then realised that all 5 of us had had return of night sweats/anxiety etc. 3 haven't been on HRT but thought they were done with all the symptoms as had been free of sweats etc for a few years, and the other 2 are on HRT and thought it had stopped working or something. Seems it all started..as it did for me...with the covid jabs although I know at least 4 of us had AZ one. But...I would think they work in a similar way as all trying to lessen the effects of catching covid. However, I would still have the jab I think having seen the devastating effects of long covid, being ill with covid, or dying of it...and I wouldn't want to pass it on to anyone either.
-
Hello Sweetooth
I completely understand how you are feeling. It is completely rubbish isn’t it?
I’ve been in and out of work since June and not working at the moment. I’m still really struggling to get my life back. I wasn’t on hrt and had been managing the menopause naturally and was the fittest I’d been in years. I started on hrt in August but really struggling to get a balance and feeling quite horrid at times. I really hope I’m not making things worse and often wonder if fresh air, exercise and a good diet wouldve been better! Debilitating fatigue, headaches, muscle aches and palpitations are my symptoms. My initial focus was to get my palpitations checked out so that took a couple of months and I’m lucky to have private healthcare through my husbands work. The palpitations are the one thing that have improved.
If ever you need to just chat, please feel free to DM me
Sending lots of love xx

Appey I have sent you a pm x

I think the vaccine as a lot to answer for , but we will never know for sure if it was the vaccine or is it infact hormones
Personally I think vaccine ..
Emm225 are you and your friends all ok now or still suffering after effects ?
I had my first jab end of March ( first aniexty for me was 3 weeks later and coincided with a period the following day ) so I wasn’t sure was it jab or hormones
I went with hormones and started HRT beginning of May
I had second jab in June .. and 12 days later had really bad aniexty also a very heavy Period and literally since then things got worse
Aniexty/ palpitations/ feeling hot / insominia / digestive problems ( coulda been from aniexty ) lost weight and so on
I thought was HRT making me feel worse and took off the patch … I’m 8 weeks off patch now and still can feel aniexty ( not as intense as it was ) I still get jittery panicky and aches and pains have returned
So I’m not sure was it the jabs that made me start getting aniexty as I did worry about the jabs to be honest as reading all the news and hearing about blood clots .. I’m on warfrain as I suffer with them already … so maybe that coulda been my trigger
Or was it hormone related .. I’m just stumped as until this Year I’ve never experienced this at all
And was obviously worse after 2nd jab which i was indeed on HRT
15 weeks since last jab .. so if it’s that I’m hoping the last bits are on way out my system …
8 weeks off HRT .. so hoping if it was that , that it will also be coming out my system ..
We will never know
I hope everyone who did suffer after jabs are ok now .. xx
-
Hi Michelle,
I’m still suffering similar symptoms to you straight after my jab.
I’m hoping it all settles soon xx
-
Hi Michelle...yes exactly the same as you...I increased my HRT as was on a low dose. Was perfectly fine before the vaccine tho and thought HRT was best thing ever. So in answer to your question...I had my second dose in May but upped my HRT at the end of August as couldn't manage the anxiety, low mood and sweats any longer. Was also soooo tired...probably cos not sleeping well.
I am sleeping a little better and only waking once or twice with hot sweats, BUT we have had a new mattress (Simba) which we have decided isn't for us even though it's a hybrid and not make to make you hot it makes me a VERY hot..and not in a good way, and even makes my husband warm.
Still a bit anxious but a lot better than I was. Whether it's the HRT or natural I don't know...I will reduce HRT again in a bit if I feel I want to but my doctor's view is the dose is no riskier...the only risk is if you are on HRT ...or not.
Not seen the friends I was discussing it with but seeing them next week so will report back. Was also talking to a younger colleague at work who after the jab had a few breakthrough bleeds ( on the pill and hadn't been having periods) and when I mentioned the jab said it was after that. I don't know, it's a difficult one to decide....and I imagine to research too. I have filled in a yellow card re the symptoms; if enough people do that/contact BBC etc perhaps research will be done.
Don't get me wrong I am not an anti jabber/vaxer (!) and would have it again , and will have my booster, as I wouldn't want to catch covid or pass it on to anyone. My sis works in hospital and her tales were heartbreaking. My friend had covid at the moment and is q poorly, although double jabbed, she was due for her booster this week. I think she would have been hospitalised without a vaccination.
-
Madness how many people are noticing things after jabs
I’m happy I’ve had mine as I had covid in January and I wouldn’t want it again
But I won’t have the booster … if indeed the jabs caused this I wouldn’t want it back so intense again no way on this planet
My aniexty is still but not as bad as it was as in not so intense.
I long for the day that it dissapears for good.
I want me back
I will never know if it was jabs or hormones or just a mixture of both
I also reported it .. let’s hope more people have too
Sorry to hear about your friend , hope she as a speedy recovery xx
Look forward to reading how your friends are now .. hopefully you get less anxious as time goes on ..
xxx

Hi ladies
Just would like if any of you have an update on your symptoms from this was posted.
I had increased my Estrogen but am now reducing as I think as vaccine is weakening I’m needing less🤞
Still not back to myself yet but some light at least!
Would love to hear any progress from those that were affected x
-
Very interested in reading this. I had both Pfizer jabs and suffered the worst anxiety and panic attacks in my life which started 2 weeks afterwards along with insomnia, feeling freezing cold and total fatigue. I ended up twice in A&E due to a fast heartbeat which would not slow down and it kicked off a week after the second vaccine. I will NOT be having a booster jab! It was all horrendous - I still get very fatigued nearly 6 months later. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever it was caused by the vaccine and my GP agrees. I reported it on the Yellow card system and on ZOE.
-
Pippa I could have written your post myself! I have never been through such a hard time in my life!
YES YES it was the Pfizer jab for me! I was abs fine before it and within a matter of days it all started.
Has your other symptoms apart from fatigue improved at all? X
-
Hi sweetooth
I’m just about back to normal now 4 months after the AZ vaccine, very slight anxiety only when I first wake up and bladder/dryness issues all fine but had to up the Vagifem for a few weeks,I stayed on the same dose of HRT as I didn’t want to mess about and maybe make things worse. No booster for me thanks!!
-
Hi Mars so appreciate your reply!’im so glad u are feeling much better as it gives me hope!
Was your anxiety bad? Did u have racing heart and palps etc?
I did increase and I think it has messed things up more! I am now having to slowly reduce. I get surges of anxiety it’s just awful☹️yes
-
I had my first AZ vaccine in mud May and I remember how distraught I was as 2 days after I had it it was all in the news about the blood clots and I was distraught. Like others who have posted, It was all I could think about. I then have developed health anxiety ever since, it’s been debilitating. I’ve tried two lots of ADs and have been on HRT since late July in the hope it would help….and it’s still to kick in 😞 I’ve been to A&E many times, like others….since my anxiety heightened. I constantly feel tense and full of sadness.
I had insomnia for weeks to begin with but the HRT I think has helped and sleep has improved, I’m pleased to say. I do wonder if it is the vaccine….and after reading these posts, it does seem to point to that. I’m really scared of getting the booster. I’m no way out of these feelings yet though and I don’t want to take it into 2022 :-\
-
Yes sweettooth my anxiety was quite bad, it would start as soon as I woke up, my heart would race and I’d feel very shaky and unsettled, would last a few hours but would be ok by the afternoon, also after the vaccine I got a few days of depression which is I feel one of the worst symptoms but it was only a few days unlike at the beginning of meno where it could last for weeks.
I’m sure things will settle soon and you’re probably right in that increasing the dose could have messed things up a bit, I had a feeling that could happen so that’s why I stayed on my usual dose and the doctor advised this too.
My doctor gave me some diazepam which helped with the anxiety but I only took it when I really felt I needed it, I think just knowing I had some helped and I’ve still got some left for emergencies but haven’t needed it.
I hope things settle down for you real soon.
-
Thank you so much Mars for your kind encouraging post! Especially today as iv had a horrid time. I am super sensitive to fluctuations which certainly doesn’t help!!
Sounds like you did the right thing and stayed on your usual regime.
Your post has helped me thank you xxx Best wishes for continued wellbeing xx
-
Theresa, sorry you have been through all that! From what I have read, for some women it seems to heighten anxiety! You probably need to give your hrt more time or even a tweak as time goes by x
-
Hi SweetTooth,
Thankyou - I hope so. I have been through very much what you’ve been suffering….too much really to put into a post, I feel so tense and nervous, I’ve forgotten what it feels like to be ‘me’. :-\
I hope your symptoms improve soon, but I do wonder if it is the vaccine.
Teresa
X
-
Teresa, def vaccine for me, I was symptom free and it happened within days. I do now think by increasing my hrt I put another spanner in the works! but one gets desperate.
I have read numerous posts on this topic a lot of hormonal upset but not for all women!
Best wishes x
-
Night sweats back again!! Had covid just before Christmas which left me with palpatations, but now settled. Had my booster 2 weeks ago and here we go again. After my 1st and 2nd vaccines (AZ) 2 weeks later I started with the sweats that lasted weeks. I'm 11 years post meno and never had night sweats even when i was menopausal. Why are these vaccines messing with our hormones??? >:(
-
Which booster did you have Deirdre??
I had Moderna, after two AZs. Not been right since.
-
I had Pfizer booster and the side effects made me really ill. I felt worse with this booster vaccine than both times having covid and now the night sweats again. I'm hoping we dont need any more boosters and after having covid twice plus 3 vaccines my immunity is enough now.
-
I'm with you there, I'm definitely done.
No problems with the two AZs but the Moderna made me feel really bad. In fact I had to sit with a doctor, at the vaccination centre, for 30 minutes after. Daily spells of feeling dizzy and weak, for two and a half weeks after, then occasionally since. Also developed muscle aches, which I didn't have before. Worried it might have triggered some sort of inflammatory illness.
Quite cheesed off, to be honest.
-
I have had 3 Pfizer vaccinations. First 2 no side effects. 3rd booster it took 2 weeks to feel less like a zombie and since then I have had night sweats, anxiety, lack of motivation to do anything, aches all over. Pain in left side under ribs, sore breasts and palpitations.I am fed up now as I am not sure what to do. I was doing fine on my patches until then , GP suggested I change HRT but had bloods done first . All came back okay. I paid for private Oestrogen and progesterone levels, all normal so why would I change? I just want to wake up and get on with the day like I used to without worrying about everything, even driving takes all my energy and I feel everything is just a uphill struggle.
-
How long ago was it? After my AZ jab my hrt seemed to stop working for about a month.
-
C-19 jabs are known to interfere with some HRT regimes as well as causing periods in women without a bleed for years. Have you reported on the yellow card system?
-
I dont think it will make any difference in reporting to the yellow card system. People have had serious side effects from these jabs and even died but they are still being used around the world and the only answers you get are the "benefits outweigh the risk". The vaccinces have saved many lives and so we just have to take the risk and suffer the side effects, hopefully for not too long.
-
Sheila99 . I had my booster last October.
CLKD. I have not reported to yellow card. I told my GP but she dismissed it.
I woke up this morning thinking is this it? I am fed up with feeling the way I do. Sometimes I think is it all in my mind but when I find it hard to walk or it hurts to put my bra on I think no it is something. I am quite low today and tearful .
-
It is not in your mind and your GP needs to get up to date!
Recently some long-covid suffers have had lung damage shown on X-ray, there is a study being undertaken as we type. Be kind to yourself. C-19 is a virus which, like many more can cause ME symptoms. The body needs to rest after a shock, either with a vaccination or the virus itself, whether it's seasonal 'flu or others.
Keep hydrated. Eat little and often. Exercise daily - getting into the sunshine and breath; as well as making sure that the thigh muscles are kept active, because those muscles are the 1st to atrophy when people are bed ridden = making it harder for people to get mobile.
Night sweats can be draining as it disturbs sleep. [currently waking in the early hours with deep seated pain in the R thigh and sciatica >:(].
World wide some people react badly to medications/vaccines/foods/rotten water - reporting on the yellow card is important right now as it triggers Research which can be helpful next time. And there will be a next time and it may be worse. Vaccines are being prepared which can be altered according to requirements.
-
CLKD. Thank you. I take onboard your advice. I will get through this I am sure but like you say others have reported similar symptoms. . I have symptoms now come back that I originally had before deciding to go on HRT 3 years ago! I have started to get ratty which is a trait I had in peri menopause which I do not like or should I say those around me do not like it. X
-
Do you need a hike in dosage perhaps? To weather this hiccup which may be due to any jabs.?
-
I just wanted to post after reading the multiple threads around hrt efficacy after COVID vaccines and share my experience. I really appreciate this forum for giving me some peace of mind. I actually had Pfizer, two in August last year and a booster start of this year. I was just early days with my Estradot dose during the initial course. I actually was doing routine blood tests at the time due to a previous hrt failing to absorb and plummeting me into a dreadful state. I was having readings of estradiol 300 pmol/l plus on the 37.5 dose, until after the first Pfizer dose where it plummeted to 95. I just assumed the dose was too low and moved to a 50mcg patch a week before my second dose, and attributed all the bumps in the weeks thereafter to waiting for the new dose to settle. But eventually I felt really ill at the 3 month mark, levels showed over 800 pmol/l and I reduced back to the 37.5mcg dose. My levels appeared to stabilise at around 200-250 pmol/l leading up to Xmas on multiple blood tests, and I was slowly starting to feel better, not perfect but getting there, plus I was only 8 weeks on this dose. Have my booster and literally the second week after I plummet again. Do levels and they are now below 100 pmol/l and I feel dreadful again.
So disheartening after all the struggles whilst doing the right thing. I’m 5 weeks post booster now and still struggling. Read lots of threads on here where women are stating they do not stabilise for up to 3 to 4 months. I’m in Australia so different system here for reporting, but still feel it is somewhat dismissive of the impact these vaccines may have on hormones.
I hope we can all recover soon and find a better way forward, so as we do not have to experience such extended struggles post vaccination. My levels did recover after the second dose (I would say it took at least 7 weeks), and trying to remain hopeful they will bounce back again. I appreciate hearing everyone’s experiences, and hope sharing my story also helps others whom are struggling with similar issues.
-
CLKD. Thanks, I think I may have to chase my endocrine specialist first and then go from there as any hike or change of HRT can interfere with my levels, it is very complicated when I can only pin point that this has happened since the booster. I will get there I am sure
Hi Serenity17, welcome to the forum and thank you for your post. I hope it is warmer there then here today😊 It sounds like you also have had a time of it, it has been just over 3 months now since I had my 3rd vaccine , I have always had hormone related problems since being diagnosed with prolactinoma in my twenties but I was doing really well up to that jab😩
Good luck and I hope your levels go back to normal soon. Xxx
-
Hi serenity17 :welcomemm: it can take the body a while to readjust after what is probably a shock to the system! How's it down there? Warm? Browse round, make your self at home.
QofR - little steps ;)
-
Thank you QueenofReds3 and CLKD, any encouragement is welcome.
It is definitely warm down here, great for the return of hot flushes!!
Queen I also suffer with any change to dose, I appreciate the sensitivity to fluctuations too well. I stupidly went up to a 50 patch out of desperation a couple of weeks ago, and realised swiftly it was a mistake. Plugging away like yourself. Wish you all the best with this challenging journey. Let’s hope we both get back on track soon.
