Title: How high to insert Vagifem?
Post by: Patchsmama on June 03, 2021, 08:32:58 AM
Hello everyone

I’ve been on Vagifem for almost a year now. Still having ups and downs and symptoms are mostly urinary related, ie. feeling like I need to go for a wee frequently.

My GP increased the dose to 3 per week last January and then I stupidly put it back to 2. I April symptoms started again so I put it back to 3 but I still feel like I’m living on the edge. At the moment, the symptoms are there. Probably not helped by my anxiety.

I’ve been inserting the Vagifem so that you can see the applicator half way out. I’m now wondering whether this is enough?  Has anyone else tried different depths of insertion and does it make any difference to bladder symptoms?

Hi, a very well respected menopause clinic advised me to vary insertion depth, but have a look at the current thread entitled Re: Ovestin cream started by Ann c, as Avalon has just posted a very helpful article on just this topic.  Includes advice on both Estriol cream & Vagifem.  Gist is that Vagifem is most effective with shallow placement & this is what I tend to do these days.

Another thought is that you may well need to increase the number of nights you use Vagifem.  Many of us find we need to use it 5 nights a week long term & it's widely considered quite safe to do this.  I use Estriol 0.01% cream externally in addition to Vagifem (& systemic HRT), both the topical treatments 5 nights a week.
