Good morning everyone,
Hope you are all ok?
Just a question about seeing a Menopause Specialist. I live in Hertfordshire and within 25 KM of home we have a private clinic and a NHS clinic. Can anyone advise on the process for getting referred and the best way to do it?
The private clinic is the Spire in Harpenden and the NHS is in Watford. Just wanting to fond out the low down, If I go private the cost is £240 initial consultation, £120 follow up and then £35 for repeat prescriptions.
Any advice gratefully received?

Hello Mrs Dawes 09 and welcome to the forum.
I was in the same position as you recently and initially I persued both options.
My GP had referred me to an NHS consultant but in the meantime I became a patient of Newson Health which is a private menopause clinic.
Due to COVID my NHS appointment was over the phone and I was told I could be prescribed HRT via my GP. As the private clinic is a long distance from me I was offered an appointment via Zoom.
I decided to stay with NH and I continue to.be treated by them and pay for my HRT privately.

There may be a long delay for the nhs one, might be worth finding out how long before making a decision. Most GPS will prescribe the hrt the private specialist suggests but some won't, if you need testosterone it may be problematic. Have you tried your gp? Unless you have particular problems they should be able to prescribe something suitable. If you want to see the nhs specialist you obviously need to be referred by your gp.
