I posted some months ago in the New Member section. I explained that I am 69 and was thinking about possibly asking to go on to Hrt for general health and wellbeing and wondering if I am too old.
I tried Hrt at the very beginning of my menopause at 51, but could not tolerate the progestogen side effects. To the best of my recollection I don't think Utrogestan was about then, but Crinone pessaries were and I remember asking my GP if could try those along with estrogen patches and she said they would not protect my womb. So that was the end of that.
At 60 I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in the spine, have been on bisphosphonate and Denosumab treatment and have never fractured (touch wood!).
I rang a specialist clinic (Studd) during the week and on the very good advice of a member here asked the secretary what my chances were of possibly being prescribed Hrt at my age. She assured me that would not be a problem assuming I had no contraindicated health conditions. So I now have an appointment for next month. I explained that I couldn't tolerate the progestogen component of Hrt and she said I would probably be put on progesterone for the shortest period of time.
I now have been mulling this over and my question is what sort of regime might I be put on? I have this probably unrealistic scenario in my head that the specialist will insist that I go onto 10 or 7 day progesterone regime as I am so intolerant to progestogens. But I don't want a bleed, no way. I would certainly try estrogen and progesterone daily. I am worried because of my past hormonal upheaval history of severe PMT, post natal depression, then having a horrible menopause that the daily progesterone will not suit me, though I know realistically that I won't know unless I try it.
I know I am meandering here, but would love some feedback on what I might expect from this appointment.
Many thanks.

I don't know what around 20 years but I think it before transdermal hrt? So you could have a completely different experience this time. He usually prescribes oestrogel and utrogeston but you could try a patch if you find you don't get on with this. If you do find you can't tolerate utrogeston well you may find a long cycle with a bleed gives you more 'good' time than continuous. On the cycles where my body does nothing the bleeds are short and light with no pmt.

Hi Sheila, thank you for replying. 20 years ago sounds like a long time and indeed it is, but yes transdermal Hrt was around. I was firstly prescribed an estrogen patch and separate progestogen tablet (dydrogestogen which I believe is no longer available) and was really well the first month, then the following two months I had bad PMT on the progestogen part. Then I tried Everol Conti and had the same experience.
But this much I do know, I felt wonderful on estrogen alone.
Many thanks.
