I just wondered if any of you have suffered from this. This is a brand new symptom for me, I eat, then my stomach gurgles like you wouldn't believe, then it slowly dies down THEN about an hour or two later I'm absolutely ravenous, this isn't normal for me,I've not changed my eating habits,or exercise regime,is this also part of menopause? Oh, I also suffer nausea on occasions too.For those of you who don't know me,I'm 57,still getting hot flushes etc but pretty sure I'm post meno.Thank you
-
I've been like that all my Life. Have you had your blood sugar levels checked recently?
Is the hunger feeling prior to a flush?
I find eating little and often helps. DH tells me that the gurgling is the stomach shouting "Yippee, I've been fed" ;D. I know 4 me that Chinese meals don't last long, within the hour I am hungry. Chicken curry on rice goes further .
DH makes pancake mix so that when my body needs energy he can cook them immediately. Sustaining, 2 are enough. Then a rest to allow my gut to absorb the energy.
Chocolate is great but it gives a false sense of being filled. I find mixed nuts/fruit, bananas, porridge - slow release foods - help.
-
Is it like a gnawing hunger pain?
Taz x
-
Thank you kind ladies
Yes Taz,exactly that
-
Have sent you a PM at home ;-).
I worked hard in our garden and suddenly had that awful dip. Two rounds of toast with peanut butter . Then a large slice of sticky stem ginger sponge.
4 me it's about being ahead of when my body will need energy ::)
-
Does it happen after all food or just some meals? Is it possible you've developed an allergy to something?
-
It's mostly everything Sheila, not the nausea but the gurgling then the hunger,if I were to eat every time I was hungry I'd be about 20 stone :-\
Thank you clkd
-
You probably wouldn't be if you body is 'asking' for sustenance which is why NAPS suggested every 3 hours. Not to add to the overall diet but to spread it out - little and often.
-
Thank you kind ladies
Yes Taz,exactly that
This was a first symptom of reflux for me. No actual heartburn just the constant feeling that i had to eat to satisfy the hunger pangs. It can also be a sign of a stomach ulcer. Ulcer 'hunger' pangs usually begin a couple of hours after eating. Might be worth you researching it. Keep a diary of food stuffs and see whether some give more symptoms than others.

Thank you Taz, I did wonder about reflux as I've had it before but like you no actual heartburn or acid coming up,thank you,I'll check it out

Any improvements? It took my gut 4-5 days B4 I noticed any differences when I altered my diet in the late 1990s. I often eat then feel queasy and have never worked out why :-\.
-
Not so bad today thanks clkd, I'm taking omeprazole and it definitely helps, also having something different for my lunch raththan just yogurt and fruit
-
AAAAAH ............ as much as I love soup with a roll, they either bloat me or leave my guts rumbling >:(
-
Although I feel full/bloated after soup with a roll, the gut hasn't had anything to 'work' on. So it gurgles. We need regular inputs of protein and roughage for the digestive system to 'spasm' properly, otherwise it complains!
Any improvement?
-
It was gurgling again today and I felt super hungry by dinner time but nowhere quite as bad,was naughty and had a mug of hot chocolate :)
-
? Listen to your body ? it obviously requires a little bit more now we move into Spring, I often find that I wilt mid-morning as I am busier in the garden.
-
Just don't want to put on weight clkd, that's my worry but I'm having crackers for lunch now with a ton of topping ;D Had cheese and coleslaw then hummus and beetroot and it's definitely filling me more, thing is,at dinner time I have a mountain of food, was ok last night as it goes :D
-
If your body is lacking sustenance it will use what you put into it, rather than layering it ;)
I have days when I am hungry, others when I eat because DH puts food in front of me ::). Eating every 3 hours never put weight on.
-
Just don't want to put on weight clkd, that's my worry but I'm having crackers for lunch now with a ton of topping ;D Had cheese and coleslaw then hummus and beetroot
This would definitely give me the gurgles! Humus and beetroot are the worst for me!
Taz x ;D
-
Humus reminds me of David Beckham's huge 4x4 ;D and beetroot I love: roasted, cold, boiled in sandwiches.
How is it today?
-
And worse Taz? ;D
Ok today but I'm hungry and it's only 3.30 but don't think I had enough for lunch, had a gf shortbread with my cuppa then felt instantly guilty :-\
-
How does the gurgling sound? If it's settling then what's to feel guilty about? Think about how much exercise you are having, even watching the wild life uses up energy. I've eaten a large slice of ginger cake with ginger pieces in without thinking about it ;-). If you listen to your body now, you'll begin to fill up and be less likely to reach for food stuffs that make you feel guilty.
Why not fruit instead, although that makes my stomach gurgle >:(
-
When did eating become so difficult ;D
-
When I was the age of 3 :'(. That was my first panic attack and from then I had eating disorders of varying severity.
Now I eat what I fancy :D. I had to break into my C.mas Lindt reindeer this afternoon :-*
-
How did it manage to survive so long???
-
;D. .......... it was hung on the C.mas tree for 2 days B4 I noticed, how Himself kept quiet :o :D
I ran out of Cadburys ;D
-
I've still got my Lindt santa. Has to be eaten by the end of April though...
Taz x :)
-
I always say I'm not a huge chocolate fan (which I'm not) but if we get a box of chocolates,it's devoured within a day ;D
-
I don't read 'eat by' dates, we managed without B4 the Common Market came up with the bright idea. ;D
I was suddenly hungry round Waitrose so grabbed a bread roll to eat on the way home ::)
-
I may have things in my cupboard past their sell by date never chocolate. If it survives for a week it's doing well.
Had an angel delight yesterday bb 2014. It tasted just the same (which is why it hadn't been eaten before...).
-
About 10 years ago, I tried 'angel delight' and 'instant whips' : tasted of chemicals ;D. Can't understand why I loved them as a kid.
How's it been today jaypo?
-
Haha nooooooo clkd butterscotch angel delight was yummy,I'm surprised I still have all my own teeth tbh ;D
Been fine, stomach ok, I think what Taz said about reflux could be it,I tried taking omeprazole for 3 days and it seemed to settle after that. Thanks for asking x
-
I get days like this too Jaypo....where only eating seems to settle or "solve" the gnawing. I took Omeprazole for about a year but eventually weaned myself off it as I was still having to take Gaviscon at night!
Now I am careful like CLKD, if I go too long in between meals I will suffer for it, especially if I drink anything with caffeine in as that would make me nauseous. I agree with CLKD that little and often is the best way to eat. We've been conditioned over the years to go with breakfast lunch and dinner when listening to when your body is hungry can help.
Glad to hear that the omeprazole seems to be settling things, I think it took a few days for my tummy to actually stop "boiling/bubbling" when I started it too. x
-
DH's gut gurgles all the while ::) it's like there's a third person on this sofa ;D. Fortunately not in the night !
-
That's what mine feels like mogster, this gnawing feeling almost painful in a weird way, like my stomach is starved, I don't drink coffee but after tea, yep, I could gurgle for Britain ;D thanks for sharing, always good to hear it's not just me :)
-
It's because the digestive tract is empty ;-) so liquids rattle around on their way down and round and further round ;D. Get the picture 8)
-
Any improvement?
-
Yes,thank you clkd,I've started having more than yogurt and fruit at lunch time and if the gurgling starts I take an omeprazole and it sorts it out,it was the constant hunger that was getting to me,never EVER had that before,as long as it does start in a drs surgery or dentist ;D
-
Not enough substance at lunch probably allowing for space in which to gurgle ;)
-
Be thankful you're not a labrador, they feel like that all the time. Apparently most guide dogs for the blind are ones that have the mutation, they're easier to train because they're so food orientated. Seems a bit unethical to me :(.
-
It's been found in recent years though. We always thought that Labs were simply greedy 'dustbins'. What I find unethical is that they breed ..... what happens to those that don't make the Grade, although the various Charities do pass them on if they are seen to be more inclined to other skills.
Hearing Dogs Charter initially stated that dogs would be taken from rescue centres. That didn't last long. Ben Fogle's Dad was instrumental in helping to set that idea up. Originally 'Deaf Dogs' ::). Now 'dogs for good'.
My husband's gut is gurling all the while. ::) it's like having 3 on the sofa ......
-
That's how my OH trains me Sheila ;D
-
And I thought you were just a bit deaf when he tells you to Sit ;D.
-
;D ;D ;D

Hi
I’ve been reading with interest about the growling knawing pain you get as I also suffer from this but only recently so I’ve googled it it’s the hunger hormone ghrelin certain foods can help fish flax seeds nuts. It really does drive you nuts doesn’t it? I’m constantly eating.
-
Hi Smokey, mine is only recently too, couldn't understand it as I've not changed my eating habits or exercise but like Taz who mentioned earlier on this thread, reflux can be the problem, acid in your stomach causing the food to be burned up too quickly in the gut and YES it does drive you nuts ;D
-
Slow release foods are important: bananas, porridge, dried fruits and nuts ........... eating B4 the body needs energy too.
-
I used to get that where I felt faint from hunger and embarrassing gurgling stomach - I thought it was normal! I used to have to take Omeprazole all the time too and it was awful (and is not very healthy). Until I was diagnosed as a coeliac and went on a strict gluten free diet. I'm now following a keto/low carb diet (which is by definition mostly gluten free) and on days when I have more carbs than usual or when I get glutened by mistake I get the same symptoms - extreme hunger, gurgling stomach, the shakes & when glutened also pain & reflux) . Might be worth asking your gp re coeliac disease? If you suspect it may be that then please don't try go it alone, for a diagnosis you need to still be consuming gluten for the tests to be accurate.
-
:thankyou: :welcomemm:
-
:welcomemm:
I didn't know coeliac symptoms could vary so much. MIL has it, if she has the tiniest crumb of 'ordinary' bread she spends all the next day on the toilet.
-
Been tested for coeliac a few times but no,all clear,I've a wheat allergy so steer clear of gluten anyway.
The gut is so complex :(
