Title: Trush!
Post by: ricekrispie on January 19, 2021, 02:08:44 PM
Hello

Does anyone have a natural treatment for vaginal thrush? Haven't had it since I was a teenager and don't want to use over the counter products if I don't have to, partly down to the cost.

Thank you.

Is it thrush?

I successfully use LIVE yoghurt: eaten and applied so do keep the pots separate ;-).   Lots eaten for 3-5 days until symptoms stop itching, and laying on a warm towel, two applications: 1 in the morning, 1 in the evening.  If nothing else, it's soothing.

I found 'canastan' burned so much I had to sit in a cooling bath for several hours  :o

Not a natural one but I had problems with recurring thrush too. You can buy fluconazole cheaply from an online pharmacy. I was advised to take a second one a week after the first and that cleared it up. According to my gp it's in the bloodstream so not sure localised treatment will work, I didn't try yoghurt but caneston pessaries didn't work for me.
From the nhs website
vaginal thrush that keeps coming back – 150mg, taken once every 72 hours for the first 3 doses, then take 150mg once a week for 6 months.

Thanks very much. Will do that tonight (eating, applying and warm towel), yes, Canestan is a bit brutal! Did you try coconut oil on the affected area? And, trying to put this delicately, how far in did you apply the yoghurt?

Cheers

Thanks, Sheila99, I'm hoping this is a one off.

As far in as possible with a slightly warmed spoon.  Not too warm or it will burn!  Thrush thrives on sugars, lives in the back passage.  A course of anti-biotic treatment can strip the digestive system of good bacteria which may lead to thrush.  My first attack was after stopping The Pill, OH the itching.  High up so I couldn't reach  >:(  ::)

Thank you all really helpful. I'm going warm towel and yoghurt first.

Cheers

If it doesn’t work, I buy the Tesco version of caneston oral capsule, cheaper but works equally as well

Miserable condition, I find multigyn actigel soothing during an attack.
The only thing that cures it totally is fluconazole.
That and not eating too much sugar.
