Title: High testosterone and Oestradol levels? Polycystic Ovary?
Post by: menopausalalways on January 09, 2021, 12:04:57 PM
Anyone have any idea about testosterone and Oestradiol levels? Apparently it is an indicator of Polysistic Ovary Syndrome? I havent had a period for 4 years??

Hi menopausalalways, can you provide us the actual blood tests results or you don't have them? Have you had your ovaries scanned lately? Your history of irregular periods may point to PCOS. You have said that your mum and grandma also had a late onset menopause. Did they have any problems getting pregnant? Facial hair? Maybe you were not menopausal 4 years ago, but had an hormonal imbalance due to all the stress you had at the time? Too many questions...

I suppose one plausible explanation is that you're still in perimenopause, given the late onset menopause that runs in your family. Another possible explanation is that you could have low levels of SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin), but that would need further tests and investigations as it can have different causes. PCOS is one of them. Are you overweight?

See if this rings any bells https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2633494120911038 It's about PCOS and it mentions that one feature of PCOS is late onset menopause.

Hello - My periods have NEVER ever been regular, they have always been totally out of kilter and my life is just one stressfest  after another! In fact I never got any of the usual period symptoms either!
When I was pregnant I was still having periods and the midwife couldn't actually give me a due date - It varied by 4 to 6 weeks....Duh :O)
Yes I have been slightly overweight but am dieting now with a vengeance!. I think I'm probably perimenopausal as its only recently I've felt nauseous and slightly dizzy but thankfully that is getting better. Sadly got no one to ask about these things - thank goodness for the Forum and all you lovely caring Ladies :)
That article
is very helpful and Yes I recently went through a spate of juicy zits around my nose and chin plus those pesky little beard like hairs which would need plucking on a daily basis - if I get enough maybe I can do the circus as the Bearded Lady

Looks like PCOS runs in the family then. Are you going to chat about this with your GP?

Thanks, do you think it's helping with symptoms? Is it caused by an UTI or you don't know? Fingers crossed for you.

Yes - I think it is but if it doesn't improve I will drop a sample into the surgery and get hem to test it! I've got to drop my horrendously high blood pressure results in to them anyway which will give them all a laugh :O)

High BP is another joy of PCOS https://www.rcn.org.uk/clinical-topics/womens-health/promoting-menstrual-wellbeing/polycystic-ovarian-syndrome

I think it's a good idea to have your urine tested. Keep us posted.

Much more curious than knowledgeable, I'm afraid.

Hi menopausal always

Firstly - regarding your blood results. You haven't given any units of measurement. Are you here in UK? You have said that oestrogen and testosterone are high but depending on the measurements of estradiol (pmol/l or pg/mol) it may not be high. Ditto the testosterone. Also testosterone measurements are really inaccurate at the bottom end of the scale. It would be helpful please if you could also put the reference range that the lab uses and this should have been supplied to you with your blood results.

I don't think your age is on here? Also you haven't mentioned anything about late onset menopause or your family so not sure where that comment came from ref other poster???

The other thing is you mention Globulin in your blood results but not what type of Globulin it is? If it is SHBG then you can work out your Female Androgen index (I can do this for you) but I need to know all the units of measurement first!

I am a bit confused especially at why you have mentioned PCOS and also the mention of your family etc - but if you tell us a bit more (on this thread) hopefuly will become clear. Also what your periods have been doing recently etc (you may have said previously elsewhere but not on this thread so I don't have the info to hand).

Hurdity x

I'm 64

Yes my mother had a late menopause as did my Gran as she had her last baby when she was 47
Haven't had any periods for 3 or 4 years- I've never ever been regular so just never bothered diarising them and have lurched to one stressfest after another - moving house 3 or 4 times in that period.
Does this help at all?
Thanks for looking and showing interest :O)

Hi menopausalalways, how are you doing?

Hello Uptick
Okay - Thanks for asking :o)
Just a grumbling slightly achey stomach which as I recall I had earlier on in the year, as I emptied my commodious bag of OTC medicines and found BUSCOPAN Cramps and some AUDMONAL as I had a brief bout of IBS about the same time so am thinking this has just flared up again.
If it continues I will consider seeing my GP - If I can get a face to face appt first.
Will try BUSCOPAN and AUDMONAL first though!
Thanks for asking.
Are you well???
