Hello ladies,
I’ve got a doctors appointment tomorrow morning as I’m worried again. I hate menopause and all the problems I’ve got.
Had a hysterectomy two and 1/2 years ago. Been menopause for just over two years. And I still got my ovaries. Earlier this year I took my washed underwear to my doctor. At this point they would get stained a light pink, grey colour and yellow colour. I showed her (I feel sorry for my doctor ::)) . She said it was normal it’s my body trying to have periods. And this will go on for a while yet. I think until my ovaries disappear, sorry this appointment was a while ago.
Anyway yesterday with in about 8 hours my crotch of my underwear was about 60% black (like old blood?). So this has scared me and I’m going again to see my doctor. I was only there on Monday getting her to look and asking if my virgina looks normal.
I am getting ovary pain today that’s not unusual for me. For the first year after hysterectomy they course me a lot of problems. Only had a internal ultrasound about 2 months ago. My 6th since my hysterectomy. And pain around my ribs, again had this on and off for 15 months now? Could it be a UTI?
But peeing like normal and no pain. Virgina hurt but I’ve had virginal atrophy for two years now.
Has anyone had this problem?
Thanks for reading
Lyncola

Black can be a sign of old blood rather than fresh. I have problems keeping my bottom clean these days so may if not careful, have some staining after a bowel movement. Let us know how you get on.

Hi CLKD,
That’s my concern that’s it’s old blood. But if it is where is it coming from? That’s why I’m seeing my doctor. Plus I know I will drive myself crazy worrying.
I’m blessed to live in Queensland Australia and seeing my doctor quickly and at in the time of coronavirus is not a problem.
Will let you know how it goes

Did you keep your cervix when you had your hysterectomy?
Taz x

How's the weather down there?
-
Hot and humid, at 6am it was 26 degrees and 70% humidity, I was wet from gardening this morning.
Taz2 I actually have no idea, I believe it was a full hysterectomy but the ovaries left in. I don’t have to ever have a pap smear again so I’m thinking cervix out.
So anyway I went to my doctors this morning and show her my photos of my underwear.
She says normal because I’ve had a hysterectomy and I’m menopausal. She did give me the medical name, but it went in one ear and out of the other.
She was happy that when I wiped myself the toilet paper was clear. She said as the stuff coming out of my virgina hits the air it oxides and changes colour.
I will have this for the rest of my life. It’s been recommended that I buy black underwear >:(

Usually with endometriosis I get really bad pain around my ovaries which I don’t have.
The humidity is killing me Avalon, I did two hours this morning in the garden, my clothes were wet :o
But got the AC running now so feeling great. I see Christmas is supposed to be top of 26 degrees.
But Tuesday is 34 degrees and I’m cleaning two houses both have no AC :'(

Another suggestion my doctor made to get the stains out. Is to bleach them, but with virginal atrophy I very careful what I wash my underwear in. I would be scared the bleach would make my atrophy worst

Morning! 9.30 a.m.
I would ask for a referral to a menopause specialist, at least a gynaecologist. Blood should never be black. 2 days after a bleed stopped each month I would have a brown stain which was normal for me. Blood is coming from somewhere so I would consider investigations.
-
My doctor doesn’t think it blood. I told her I thought it was blood. As there’s nothing on the toilets paper when I wipe myself she is not worried. She said she would be concerned if after I pee and wiped myself there was colour, that would mean something else.
This is normal for hysterectomy menopause, I will get this occasionally. Turn grey, black when it hits my undies and the air oxidation happens.
I’m always having ultrasounds, blood test, wee test, smears and been with my doctor for many years. And she is spot on with all the virginal atrophy.
I will take her word and not worry as she seen the photos and my undies in real life plus only did a virginal inspection on Monday

That's a reminder: Soak bloodied items or those with red wine in salted cold water.

I had a full hysterectomy 22 years ago. I bled after sex initially but they said I had haematomas. I have never had anything show on my underwear apart from discharge since . X

Annie0710 maybe because I’ve still got ovaries? I’ve never have discharge since my hysterectomy?
Don’t know I’m just going to trust my doctor. Before my hysterectomy if I had old blood in my undies, I would say it looks different then what I get now. The blood was a thicker consistency, look a different colour and formed differently in my underwear.
-
From what I understand with my doctor was saying to me, it doesn’t exit my virgina that colour, it changes that colour on my underwear
-
Why not start a post and ask if anyone who has had a hysterectomy also has this problem? I don't wish to question your doctor but no other blood changes colour like that in such a short time so why should this? She may be right but I would question both that it's normal and that it changed colour.

I’m just going to carry on like normal, my undies have been fine since Thursday.
But one change I will make is dapping my virgina with toilet paper after I pee. I’ve gotten in a habit after my hysterectomy as not wiping after a pee.
My doctor said if I wipe myself and toilet paper is clear all is good. I did wiped myself two times on Thursday and it was clear. If I wipe myself and there’s colour then something wrong and I will go back to see my doctor, if she on holiday see another doctor and get them to start the testing.
I’ve had this colour (pink, grey, black, orange) about once a month for a year now. In that time I’ve had two internal ultrasound, blood test, virgina swapped and wee test.
When I had a UTI first time in my life about 10 weeks ago, I had tiny amount of blood light pink/red on the toilet seat and a tiny tiny bit in my undies.
So I’m not going to stress and will keep an eye on myself. Another thing that’s really strange I own about 18 undies, 5 are the same make and pack but they are the only ones that have the black colouring on them, no others. Which I find very strange what’s the chances of that?

I will keep you all informed how I’m going, and maybe it’s something that only affects some post hysterectomy menopausal ladies? Like with how with menopause we don’t all get the same problems
-
Avalon just looked and they are made in China, they are Peter Alexander undies, so not cheap. But I do other Peter Alexander undies and they aren’t as bad.
At the moment I’m more concerned about the urgent colonoscopy :o
-
Have you thought about using a panty liner to keep your undies nice?
Taz :)
-
When I had periods I would make it two days and my poor virgina would get very irritated from the pads.
So to were a panty liner is a big no.
Still all good here, patting myself dry and no colour at all.
I’m worrying about the colonoscopy, not the colonoscopy itself done it two times already. But why have they got me down as urgent? I think they are thinking I’m bleeding too much. But it’s been six months and I am headed in the right direction. Still pain every day but not as painful, and less days bleeding. I only bleed about 2 or 3 days a month now, not every day.

Update
5 weeks later and nothing on the toilet paper or my undies.
I started wiping myself after wee, stopped doing it after my hysterectomy, as I got virginal atrophy.
I just thought I would be wiping the cream off that I’d just put on. So going by my doctor information she told me, maybe if there’s no excess wee on my undies it won’t change colour when it hits the air.
Sorry I can’t remember the medical term she called it?
But I will still keep an eye on myself, as she said if the toilet paper is clear as I wipe myself there’s not a problem
