Hello,
Wondered if i could pick your brains please. I have been having what i think are perimenopausal symptoms but am on the combined pill and have been for quite sometime. If the pill is supposed to suppress your own hormones...does anyone know why you would be getting perimenopausal symptoms..I just can't work it out in my head!
Thank you for your help :)

Morning. Didn't want to cut and run but I don't use HRT - have you put the name of the product into the search box?

Morning, appreciate your quick reply! Thank you :)
Its called Lizinna, i did type into search but couldn't find anything. I've been on it for contraception rather than HRT purposes but these peri symptoms have made an appearance since July whilst i have still been on them

Hi Sophie. I saw your post on another thread and was going to reply... But I'll reply to this one.
I don't have the answer, I'm afraid. All I know is I'm early 40s and struggling to hell with symptoms and I've tried nearly every single pill over the last 12 months and just cant get on with them. Despite me taking them in 20s avd 30s and one as recent as 5 years ago... Same one now gives me continuous migraines!!!
Also, I was on the mini pill cerazette, which stops ovulation, but now symptoms are quite severe on that.
My guess is it's our body changing dramatically.
What are your symptoms??? I'd just say, take advice and think very carefully before stopping your pill... {or maybe try a different one}. I regret stopping my mini pill the first time as I've never got back to 'normal' since. Can't get on with a pill now, but it's what meno clinic recommend and I tried HRT, the estrogen part alone was horrific... So I don't think I'm ready for that.
My only option seems to be try another pill... Or, this time ill have to try the patch.
Sorry, its prob not too helpful, but I'm wondering if you stop, like me things might become a whole lot worse :'(

Hello,
Thanks so much for your reply. I think you are probably right about our bodies changing, ive been on this one for quite sometime so don't think its the pill itself. I think i am going to try the mirena coil but i am a bit scared - what if it makes me worse and they then wont take it out etc. I just wanted to get my head round, if they give the combined pill to supress hormones why do i have these symptoms - is it because your body is overiding them etc?
As regards my symptoms, rage, tearful, felling incredibly low, brain fog, had weird things like my boobs being painful after my period rather than week before. them suddenly growing and then going right back down again..

I know they suggest taking no breaks, or minimal breaks, to avoid the week of hormones drops... I assume you've tried that???
Meno clinic seem happy to advise that... But obviously check with your own gp as you might need your BP checking etc.
It really does seem to me like my only option.
I'm scared of mirena too. I know friends who have it for heavy bleeding. I have so many symptoms, but my periods themselves are effortless and very light. So I'm not persuaded yet on the mirena. Obviousky if you have it, you could then top up with estrogen through HRT... But my very recent experience on the estradiol part of HRT was horrific... So I do think 'overriding' sounds a better option.
I'm thinking of asking to see a gyny who specialises in period problems and meno, rather than meno clinic. But I am worried I'll pay £170 to be told, just try another pill ::)

Just looked... Lizinna is generic of Cilest. Think that's the only one I haven't tried. Seems quite high in estrogen at 35mg.
Have you looked at the Avon pill ladder? It places all combined pills in terms of their androgenic affect. Cilest is in the middle.
There are also a few low estrogen pills, with 20mg. They didn't work for me... But we're all different. They are often recommended for peri.
I also tried the ring...
