Hi all, I was wondering if you can take HRTwhile still in perimenopause? I'm 44 and at my wits end with these symptoms and over the last 6 months they've just got worse. I'm starting to become irregular for me also. Its ruining my life but dont know where to turn as doctors dont seem to want to know. They've offered me mini pill, which I cant take due to side effects or the coil, which I really dont fancy. Any advice would be greatly welcomed. Thanks in advance :P

Hi I’m peri and just about to turn 41. I started HRT a couple of months ago. You say you don’t fancy the coil- just wondering why. I had a Mirena fitted 8 years ago and thinks it’s great. The hormone is localised in your uterus so hardly any enters your blood stream so the chances of side effects are minimal compared to other progesterone sources. I get no side effects apart from it’s stopped my periods which to be honest I quite like, I can do without those!!!
HRT for those of us who are quite young us but only possible to actually there’s an awful lot of research to show that it’s necessity for protecting against osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes, dementia etc. I had to fight my gp to get it but I got it because I did loads of research and knew exactly what I was talking about when I spoke to her.
You need to go on Dr Louise Newson’s website https://www.menopausedoctor.co.uk/
There’s absolutely loads of info about why us young ones should use HRT - she’s the current leader in the uk at the moment for interpreting all the new research for us non medical types!
If it’s ruining your life don’t take no for an answer. I was all ready to book a private appointment it was getting me down so much. I felt the positive effects of HRT within a week!

I'm almost 42 and going through exactly the same thing - in fact this post could be written by me! Because of my age and my periods still being regular I've found it impossible to get any doctors to suggest anything other than the pill, which I can't take for the same reasons as you. I know my symptoms I started experiencing 12 months ago (quite severe) are hormonal because they only happen at the exact same time every month (day 14 - day 2/3). In the end I had to pay to see a private hormone doctor but it's not just a one off consultation kind of thing - you really need frequent check ups and it ends up being very expensive. I don't have much to offer as I'm very much struggling myself at the moment but just wanted to send you some good vibes and say you're not alone - it can be very hard at our age to be taken seriously

Hi, thanks for your replies and thank you so much for the link. I have educated myself as much as possible and actually argued with the doctor, who then passed me on to the Dr that has an interest in womans health and finally getting somewhere. She is gonna prescribe HRT after I've had an examination. Knowledge is most definitely power! The link was brilliant and learnt so much, so again thank you 😁

So glad to hear this. It's insane to me that in 2020 women in their 40s are having to fight with GPs to get HRT. It's crazy the lack of education that there is. Good luck xx
