HELLO!!
Anyone tried VERTIGon for lightheadedness and Nausea?
Thanks for reading
Angie
-
Hi,no, I always use the travel sickness tablets....stugeron :)
-
Does Stugeron help with Dizziness?
-
Hi menopausealways, yes Stugeron helps with dizziness, IF what's causing dizziness are inner ear vestibular issues.
-
Yep, I was prescribed it for continual dizziness, helped within a day or two
-
Glad to hear it works well for you. Do you have any side effects? I don't have dizziness but tinnitus is killing me 😕
-
No side effects, been using it on and off for years :)
-
Brilliant, maybe I'll consider trying it for tinnitus. Thanks a lot :)
-
If you use it,don't use the instructions for travel sickness,if you look at the leaflet inside the dosage is 2 tabs 3 times a day :)
-
Do you take fewer than 2-3 a day for dizziness then Jaypo? And for how many days is it safe to take them, do you know please?
-
Hello ladies.
I had dizziness from Labyrinthitis recently and I was given Stemetil tablets to take 3 x daily. These may be prescription only but I thought it was worth a mention.
Take care everyone.
K.
-
I was prescribed them for a week at that dosage but yes,you can take less but how effective they'd be I'm not sure.
I used to be prescribed stemitil and was on them long term but a dr then stopped prescribing them as they are linked to Parkinson's BUT ⬅️(big but😆) that's long term use
-
Actually all these vertigo drugs can cause a symptom that resembles Parkinson's disease but it's actually something called extrapyramidal symptoms. Unlike true Parkinson's, once you stop the drugs the symptoms subside. And they only occur with long term use of the drugs. That's why doctors prescribe them now for short term use (2-3 months).

Jaypo

- I thought this meant the dose for travel sickness on the leaflet inside is 2-3 times a day but that you were saying to take a different dose for dizziness?! Sorry - bad case of meno brain ::) I couldn't see anything on the PIL about using it for dizziness.
Kathleen - thanks for the info about Stemetil. Stugeron works for me for travel sickness when other drugs don't, but I'd never tried it for dizziness, though before this thread was started, coincidentally I'd bought a new pack intending to try it for that (to prevent the dizziness progressing to nausea etc).
-
Hi haha don't worry probably me not explaining correctly (my meno brain ;D )
I think the dose for travel sickness is written on the actual box but the dr prescribed me the higher dose of 2 tabs 3 times daily,I'm sure I also read it in the leaflet somewhere,oh god,I'm doubting myself now ;D
Thanks for that uptick,I'd been taking stemitil FOR YEARS wasn't til I moved down here to Wiltshire the dr said no more on repeat prescription but didn't say why, then when I asked another dr it was him that said about the Parkinson's,can't believe I was prescribed it for so long with no questions asked before :o
-
Don't worry jaypo, it's probably a recent connection and as pointed out, the symptoms of Parkinson's eases . U didn't have the shakes normally did U ? ;)
-
Only if I haven't had my wine ;D
-
PHEW ;D
-
Jaypo, don't worry - it's me not reading your post correctly either ;D
OK, so I have the PIL in front of me & it says "Adults . . . Take 2 tablets two hours before travelling and 1 tablet every 8 hours during the journey". Box says the same.
But that's for travel sickness, so knowing you were prescribed 2 tabs 3 times daily for dizziness is helpful! Thanks :). Meno brain can now compute ::) But don't ask me to do long division ;D
I'd put it down to being a dizzy blond, but when I put my specs on, turns out that apparition of my little grey granny I keep seeing everywhere, is me. Short-sightedness: nature's way of softening the blow of middle age ;D
-
It's that woman staring back from shop windows that shocks me :o :o
I have used 'Kwells' successfully 2 ease anxiety surges as well as numbing me whilst travelling. It is sleep inducing though. I don't think it matters short term.
-
Haha wrensong,you are literally a dizzy blonde/gray ;D
Ok, I don't want anyone to just take my word re the dosage, I could've sworn it was SOMEWHERE in the PIL but,if you look it up on the nhs site,it tells you there that for vertigo it is 2 tabs 3 times daily, flippin eck, thought I was going mad (er) for a mo ;D
-
Oh Jaypo - what are you doing to me girl? ;D You've just had me reading the PIL right through again to be sure there's no ref to using Stugeron for dizziness ::) ;D. There isn't! But I checked the website as you suggested ;D so I don't inadvertently kill myself taking too much of the stuff https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/cinnarizine/
& seems you do know what you're talking about ;) ;D Gold star for you! These are the relevant bits:-
"It's used for:
travel sickness (also called motion sickness)
dizziness and sickness caused by inner ear problems (such as vertigo, tinnitus and Ménière's disease)
It also comes mixed with dimenhydrinate (another antihistamine) to treat vertigo.
For travel sickness
Adults and children aged 12 years or older – take 2 tablets 2 hours before travel, then 1 tablet every 8 hours during the journey if needed.
Children aged 5 to 11 years – give 1 tablet 2 hours before travel, then half a tablet every 8 hours during the journey if needed.
For dizziness and sickness caused by inner ear problems
Adults and children aged 12 years or older – the usual dose is 2 tablets, taken 3 times a day.
Children aged 5 to 11 years – the usual dose is 1 tablet, taken 3 times a day."
Can I ask was it straight Cinnarizine you were prescribed or the one combined with Dimenhydrinate they mentioned here?

-
Wrensong, you're fast. ;D
-
Uptick ;D.
Was that the online PIL you quoted? The one in the box with my new pack of Stugeron says nothing about dizziness! Honest ;D
-
It is used by GPs though for dizziness. Anything must be better than vertigo :-\. Apart from gin ;D
-
Uptick ;D.
Was that the online PIL you quoted? The one in the box with my new pack of Stugeron says nothing about dizziness! Honest ;D
Yes, first bit is from SmPC, last bit from PIL. It has been updated on emc 20 May 2020.
-
And before you say I'm on the gin ;D Here's the link
https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.1529.pdf
-
Aha! Thanks Uptick. This explains the discrepancy: the PIL in my new box of Stugeron (expiry date 12-2022) says "leaflet updated Nov 2019". Between us all we got there in the end ;D
Pass the gin ;D
-
:drunk: ;D
-
And before menopausalalways thinks we haven't invited her to the party, here's some info on the active ingredient of Vertigon
https://cks.nice.org.uk/topics/menieres-disease/prescribing-information/promethazine-teoclate/
Let's get dizzy for a good reason now :drunk:
-
 :drunklaf:
-
Cheers Uptick :party09: :cancan:
-
Oh uptick I'm NOT going crazy after all wooohoooooo ;D
Blimey,I'm sure there must be a joke about how many menopausal women does it take to read a leaflet ;D ;D
-
Many more than it takes to drink a bottle of gin ;D
-
Oh Jaypo sorry ;D :foryou: I never doubted you'd had it for dizziness or that your GP must know it was effective for that, just that my PIL from the Stugeron box makes no mention of dizziness ::) & I wanted to know from someone who'd been prescribed it, how many could safely be taken next time I end up so dizzy I look like I've downed the entire bottle of Uptick's gin in half an hour.
Sad thing is, I haven't had a drink for nearly 3 years ::) ;D
Thanks girls. Great team effort ;D
-
Maybe it's time to reconsider? :drunk: ;D
Tell us if Stugeron works for dizziness, not that I want you to have it ;D and remember you can't take it along with gin ;D
-
Haha ;D, you spoil sport Uptick! I think my carefree days of a lovely glass of Pinot with dinner or a nice G&T while cooking are well & truly over. Apparently that type of bliss is not compatible with my particular version of the Menopause from Hell! ::)
Will report back on whether the Stugeron rights the world next time I'm wondering why the hell the floor's heaving & the walls are not where they used to be :o :o :o.
Trying a little experiment first though. Take too long to explain & the hunch may be barking, so won't publish it here & make myself look even more of an idiot! ;D
Meanwhile, you'll just have to finish that gin on your own. Poor you ;D I'm not jealous at all.
-
Hahahahaha wrensong,I didn't doubt that you doubted me ,oh goodness, where is this going ;D but I DID get it on prescription from my GP BUT you can also buy it over the counter........awww geeze, where's the gin ;D
-
And that Tena Lady?!
:drunklaf:
-
Better make that the Tena pants ;D ;D
-
Good idea, now I can have some beer too :drunk:
-
See Uptick's not put in an appearance yet this morning. Bad case of the dizzies from all that gin & beer :D.
-
;D No wrensong, uptick is onto lager now ;D
-
Howdidyaknow? :drunk:
-
How R the symptoms - alwaysmenopausal : as an aside?
? menopausalalways ?
-
Quite right to bring the thread back on track CLKD. I blame that Uptick - incorrigible! Sorry Menopausalalways, please do let us know how you are.
-
Whoa, I have posted a link to the medication she's been prescribed :ange:
-
Hopefully she's not laying prone somewhere :-\ feeling ghastly.
I get light headed due to a nerve in the back of my neck, I move and go 'oh!' but can't locate the exact place that causes the problem.
-
Yes, we DID answer her and quite seriously too.......then it just went downhill after that as uptick is on the booze ;D
-
I have a good excuse, coronavirus is not an alcohol lover ;D
Sorry menopausalalways (tough to write your name when under the influence), hope you're feeling much better, I'll shut up now :-X
-
Whoa, I have posted a link to the medication she's been prescribed :ange:
So you did Uptick. Impressive you can still multitask while on the booze.
I hope, menopausalalways, that you can can forgive us for the mayhem. Often not much fun in menopause, so always good to seize the opportunity to make some.
-
Oowwww is that an actual fact uptick? (Runs off to get the red wine ) ;D
It's good to have a giggle, like you say wrensong, meno is poop and if we can laugh then let's do it ho ho ho :-\ ⬅️ Although he looks a bit gloomy
-
:-X
-
I sent her a PM asking her to drop by :-\ - hope she hasn't done a runner in disgust :'(
-
Goodness CLKD - I hope there's nothing anyone would find disgusting here.
-
So do I however ........... :-\. some may be put off by our antics ? especially if they haven't been on a Forum previously. :-\
-
Nah,she won't be offended,as uptick says we did respond with advice but she never came back on,she pm'd me to ask me something and she was ok,so no worries ;)
-
CLKD - I do hope not. Everyone means well here.
Thanks for that update Jaypo - good to know Menopausalalways is OK.

Hi menopausalalways. A quickie to say I have sent you a PM & I hope you are OK. Vertigo is truly horrible & you have my heartfelt sympathies. As it's only been an intermittent issue for me past couple of years I'm only just learning about it myself so haven't posted about it here. I had been hoping to goodness it would go away on its own, but when it strikes it's way too disruptive to ignore. I hope you are feeling at least somewhat better. May not be around on the forum for a while - other pressing issues IRL! But please send me a PM if it might help to chat about it.
