I still have what feels like a dull ache in my bladder after 2 courses of antibiotics. The infection was not confirmed by the lab and I had an examination by my GP who said not much VA. My original symptoms were UTI like, but without the pain on peeing that you normally get and this came on suddenly after sex.
Have always had painful sex since hysterectomy 9 years ago, but was refused hrt because of endometriosis and given Ovestin instead. In the main the UTI symptoms have now gradually gone except the feeling of needing to pee again around 15 mins after going. I am trying a reload of Ovestin at the moment to see if this helps and have treated myself for bv and thrush.
Very concerned about the residual pain as am worried I have interstitial cystitis or worse, bladder cancer as my aunt died of this. GP has taken bloods and asked me to give it another week to see if the pain goes. Does anyone have experience of this please?

Get some pain relief down you which will help ease the need2P feelings. The spincter nips as it closes off the urine stream. I take 2 Nurofen 3 times a day for 3 days. Usually works ;-)
There are a lot of nerves in that area. Continue with the 'ovestin' every night until symptoms ease. Do U use any other moisturiser around the vaginal area?
Do read the vaginal atrophy threads: this condition mimics repeated urine-type symptoms really really well!

Thanks yes, I have read a lot of the threads, took painkillers yesterday and that helped. It’s the heavy ache in the bladder area that’s worrying me. I do use vaginal moisturisers but not every day. Will try that with the sylk. Hope the Ovestin loading helps and it’s not an embedded infection.

I had that heavy ache too ......... usually B4 a bleed, also the feeling that my bottom would drop out :o

Use lots of appropriate VA treatment .......... when symptoms niggle with me it's in the area below the belly button :-\ and I know that I need to up the 'ovestin' to every night. Plus Nurofen.
-
Put 'embedded UTI' into the search box? I am sure it's been mentioned along with symptoms and treatment.

Mona Lisa, are you on hrt or vaginal hrt? I am taking CLKD’s advice and upping my dose to every night for a bit. Am wondering too if we have irritated our bladders with the infection and it needs to heal properly, but in the past my infections have gone away quickly. Maybe one infection too much.

If your urine sample has not grown a bug in a Lab. you haven't had an infection. So treating symptoms of vaginal atrophy is important, for Life. Antibiotic treatment will clear the symptoms of infection but won't ease the lack of oestrogen.
-
I still may have had an infection because my lab test was carried out after I had 7 days of antibiotics (Nitrofurantoin), so its possible not enough bacteria would have been detected for a positive test. I really am not sure whether my symptoms are down to an infection, not enough oestrogen or even both.
-
So whose idea to send the sample after treatment :-\. Up the VA treatment and if worried after 2 weeks I would ring your surgery to suggest sending a fresh sample to a Lab..

Yes I get re occurring bladder pain like period cramps I had hystorectomy 20 years ago I am 63.i don't take hrt but use vagifem to which I have to up to 3 or 4 times for a week when this happens I get back pain too .I worry that its something not right. But say its V.A test too come back negative I don't take hrt as said to old now. No one listens and we have no specialist gynecological. Even gynecology said just use vagifem more .so depressing and makes me irritable and anxious. Hope you get relief my friend .

Morning Hugs - one can use vaginal atrophy treatment every night if required. Some ladies do, with added 'yes' or 'sylc' moisturisers around the outer labia. I usually some 'ovestin' on the outer area as well as into the vagina.
Taking pain relief to ease the 'need2nip' feelings works for me. R U in the UK, you can be referred to a dedicated menopause clinic for advice.

Thanks for reply I am in UK just need re assurance intestinal cystitis and V.A. mimic same as bladder cancer but none symptoms I have add up .no buring no smell I wee loads as much as I drink same comes out but pain in bladder and back no blood no problem with stream of wee . Had same over years but as estrogen depletes need more vagifem and yes moisturiser to cope I guess. Had it a lot this week on 4th vagifem this week and it dissappear symptoms for no reason.read that bladder cramps are part of low estrogen. So upp it and see if improves thanks for your care ladies x

VA symptoms mimic repeated urine infection-type feelings really really well. Go back to using every night?
