Title: Mirena coil
Post by: Fez1976 on August 01, 2020, 10:29:09 AM
Hi good morning
long story but to control heavy periods peri menopausal symptoms ( I’m 44) I’ve had mirena inserted about 10 days ago.
I’m anaemic and since I had it fitted I haven’t stopped bleeding basically like a period bleed is this normal ?

I thought the whole point was to reduce bleeding or stop periods i don’t know whether to ring the hospital, where I got it fitted but don’t want to sound irrational.
What’s everyone’s experience of the mirena is this normal?
Thank you

When I had mine fitted,I bled for about 2 weeks- not a huge amount more like spotting then it stopped then 4 days later had my period. My Gynae said it would take some time to settle and it did. I'm using oestrogen gel 2 -3 pumps.
Just needs time to settle and tbh wished I'd had it fitted sooner.

Yes completely normal.  I bled for about 4 weeks, which got lighter and lighter. I don’t bleed at all now it’s fab  :)

Thank you
I’m praying it helps. I’ve been plagued by heavy periods to the point I needed a iron infusion as my Ferrarin levels dropped so low. I’ve heard such mixed stories but trying to remain positive.
I had it fitted at the hospital but wasn’t really given much information I will persevere 😬

Hi Fez1976, I had the Mirena fitted when I was 34 for contraception and it reduced my periods to nothing, it was awesome! I'm now 53 and bleeding heavily, so I'm getting the coil fitted again. I wasctold by my consultant that the bleeded would stop immediately and maybe 100pc. If I was you, I would mention it to my Dr just to make sure that everything is OK, just my thoughts, as you're so anemic.

Thank you I will, as I don’t want my iron levels dropping again, I felt dreadful.
