Hello,
Does anyone find that they have developed a sensitivity to smell due to the menopause? For example I can't stand the smell of some perfumes which would not have bothered me in the past.
-
When I was on The Pill the smell that bothered me was garbage. It wasn't until I stopped taking it that I realised. Then I could smell roses etc. again.
When I was given Tamoxifen my sense of smell altered. I could smell every ingredient of a Dundee cake which DH had baked, even the 2 tablespoons of water. It was in a tin with the lid down and behind a closed door :-\

I sometimes get sensitive to noise and light as well. All of these never bother bothered me before.

It's probably non allergic retinitis
I have this. Anything strong smelling, be it perfumes or cleaning products, sets me off.
I could sneeze for England. ;D

I have developed a super sensitivity to smells. Worst is husband's coffee. Urrrggghhh. I can really smell our furniture as well, which no one else can. These smells can make me really nauseous. I have definitely noticed this as one of my symptom of peri phase.

Then I'm not the only one.

It’s weird isn’t it? I can’t do with loud noises, especially a background radio show or Music, although I will happily listen to music in he car. I can smell everything. Damp washing is the worst, plus any kind of bin smell. I am often saying ‘what’s that smell?’ An no one else knows what I am talking about.
I have suffered very occasional migraines through my life and have always been sensitive to bright flashing lights.
It would be lovely to feel normal again. I guess we just have to get used to the new normal.

We have a thread about noise ::)
Garbage was the worst for me until I stopped The Pill.

Small comfort - I reckon I would notice COVID if my sense of smell went!
