:-\. have a chat with your Practice Nurse  :-\ ........ 'canestan' made my vagina burn ......... I had to sit in a Luke-warm bath for 2 hours  :-\

Also if it is thrush, buy two tubs of LIVE Greek yoghurt: eat lots during the day and apply 3 times a day to the vaginal area.  It will cleanse the gut throughout and ease the vaginal symptoms.  Keep pots separate ?  ;).  Thrush thrives on sugars and lives in the back passage.

Ask the pharmacist for an oral fluconazole tablet single dose 150 mg. Canesten do them but pharmacy own brands are cheaper. If you prefer the vaginal route, a single dose Canesten pessary. MultiGyn Actigel 2 or 3 times a week is good for helping to maintain the correct vaginal pH, which may help prevent further episodes. I would not advise applying yogurt in case it introduces the wrong bacteria. Lactobacillus acidophilus in yogurt is not found naturally in the vagina.

It can be difficult telling the difference between candidiasis and a VA flare up,  I know where your coming from on that one!

Agree it can be like rocket science working out what's going on in menopause & beyond, whether BV, thrush, VA . . . The characteristic thick discharge & intense itching of thrush we get in our younger years is not always present with thrush as we age.  Misleadingly, a thin, watery discharge & soreness can be the only signs.

The oral capsule is the most convenient treatment but I was told by a GP after I had to keep repeating the dose, often less effective than treating the infection locally.  I find the Canesten gel pessaries the most effective as the hard pessaries tend not to dissolve well as we age, though the gel is messy when it disperses.  As Joaniepat says, treating with a weekly maintenance dose of something to maintain a favourable pH & deter infections taking hold is a good idea.  I use Boots BV gel in single prefilled applicators once a week or so on a non-Vagifem night & again after a bleed which upsets pH.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.

No neither did I until it happened to me but a menopause specialist then confirmed the presentation often changes as we age.  Steep learning curve this menopause business!  Good luck with it.

A hip length cotton T shirt (with cotton knix), because I still struggle to remain cool  8) overnight night despite full HRT, so can't wear anything longer/more substantial.  Probably best to go without knix if/when you can get away with it, but with kids in the house I see your dilemma  :o!  A shortish, thin cotton nighty that covers the bits you want to keep hidden & no knix would probably be healthiest in terms of preventing what currently ails you coming back.

How R symptoms this morning?

Does it matter at age 8, worse if he were 16 or older ;-).   If he is used to seeing you unclothed?

My Dad always wore a long vest and Mum a nightie, from when we were tiny.  Due to embarrassment and also, in the 1940s/50s/60s no central heating  ::)
