Hi Daisie. I can't help with your question but just wanted to show support.  How was it discovered? A routine eye test or were there symptoms to warn you?  :'(

It is totally understandable you would feel depressed.  Can you contact your specialist and request medication to get you through?  Are there any support groups in your area that you could have face time to discuss your fears?  I know there are several ladies on AD's who could help.  Good luck and let's hope they got it all.  Melanoma is a nasty piece of work.

Oh have a

There's so little support after surgery, I would have thought that the Consultant would have offered a specific after-care Nurse? Maybe ring the Secretary and explain that you are struggling [we don't bite ;-)] - ask if there is a support group locally or in the Hospital. It seems remiss to case you off!

I have taken various ADs over the years, can't tolerate any that give me nausea.  Currently taking Ecistalopram 10mg at night and 5mg in the morning.

I would also suggest getting in touch with your local Blind Group as well as Guide Dogs 4 the Blind who may have details of support within your area.

So bother now?  If you access the support on the Card you will be aware of what is available when you require it.  Knowledge is after all power ;-)

Hi Daisie. Sorry to hear your news but really pleased that you don't have to have any more treatment. As for anti depressants a friend has had good success with an SNRI rather than an SSRI.

Hi Daisie

I'm so sorry to hear about what you've gone through... how traumatic and I'm not surprised you?re still in shock. I haven't got anything to add to the other helpful responses other than what helped for me. I have tried antidepressants in the past but they weren't for me. What did really help was CBT. You can read about it and ask your GP? (I just read a book about it but I think there are courses on line) it's basically re wiring your brain to help you think about things differently.. it takes some effort to begin with but after a while it really does help and becomes a very natural thought process (it definitely made a difference to my cancer last year)... anything's worth a try!

Hope you start to feel better soon Daisie xx

Hi Daisie,

Can't help with antidepressants, but mindfulness is a life saver. Sending healing vibes and a huge virtual hug. 🤗

You are very welcome.  Little steps.  Do you keep a diary of how you feel etc.?

There's usually someone around on here  ;)

How about yoga?  Or look on the net to see if there are any ideas, maybe contact MIND Charity and ask if they have apps or tapes?

In the meantime do some deep breathing?  Start at your feet, stretch the toes, hold, relax.  Work up the body through all the muscle groups, this can be helpful in the early hours.

How long have you been waiting for mh team Daisie?
Might be a while with corona.

In the mean time have you ever tried
5htp or valerian ? Some people have good results.

I'm not surprised your still in shock and feeling down, it's a bloody lot to take on board.
You need that lift just to get you started on the road of motivation
Hope it comes soon 😀  depression is the pits. thanks clio51 .it as been too much realy but just do what i can small steps ,iv never tried 5htp or valerian i take a beta blocker for blood pressure  i have to watch what i take but its worth having a word with a pharmacy about it ans see what they say about interactions ,thanks getting back to me  :foryou:

Don't let the b......d grind you down Daisie xxx

daisie, I'm so very sorry to hear your news.  It must have been a huge shock and it will take time for you to adjust.

I hope you can find a suitable AD to help you through this difficult time.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Daisie my husband had his eye removed 8 years ago because of ocular melanoma and I can sympathise with you the aftercare physical and mentally is severely lacking for patients yet you are loosing one of your senses.
Hang in there and read and join the ocular forums they give more information than the hospital does.
I have tried several SSRi and they all gave such awful side effects I could not tolerate them.🌹xx
