Title: Perimenopausal? Thyroid problems too? Advice needed
Post by: Roxpen on March 10, 2020, 11:38:32 AM
Hello  :)
Long time lurker here who has learnt so much from this site. Thank you!  :sunny: (http://:sunny:)
I am 44 and perimenopausal (diagnosed at 42 with symptoms and raised FSH).
I currently take HRT (mirena, 5 pumps oestrogen and Androfemme testosterone) and am so much better with lots of symptoms controlled - hot flushes, anxiety, insomnia, and muscle ache all much better.

But still so tired! Is this the new normal for me? My testosterone level 3 months ago is now in normal range (0.8 if I remember up from 0.35) but at bottom end so could be this needs to be higher still.
But visited doctor and had lots of blood tests - all normal.
I do seem to have symptoms of hypothyroidism but
TSH =1.48 (range 0.35 - 5.0)
T4 =14 (range 11-23)
I know some people have symptoms when in normal range so is this worth going to discuss with GP?
Any advice gratefully received!!

Hi roxpen, I'm in a similar position as you so interested in the replies. On HRT and meno symptoms under control but still tired. Seeing my gp in a couple of weeks so will ask for thyroid tests. I sincerely hope this isn't the new normal.

I'm with you there, Sheila  :)  I'm going to make a doctors' appointment to discuss tests in more detail.  Fingers crossed they're sympathetic. I always feel as if I am bothering doctors so if they are dismissive...

Let us know how you get on? Perhaps they'll let you trial medication to see if it makes a difference.
