Title: Anxiety and sensitivity to smell
Post by: Focus on February 19, 2020, 01:35:54 PM
No idea what's going on here...

I've always had a really bad sense of smell (as have my mum and my gran).

I've become increasingly intolerant of smells I don't like recently, to the point where I get a headache and feel like I'm going to throw up.

I've been suffering quite bad anxiety recently. And I feel like I want to sleep all the time. I have no enthusiasm for anything *and I'm normally very passionate about what I'm doing().

This is awful. I can barely recognize myself.

What's going on with the smell thing? That's the weirdest.

Hiya focus.
, I find anxiety increases my  sensitivity to  noise and lights..and  if it makes me nauseas then also  to smells.  but.....so does my migraine.    Do you suffer migraine?

I have noticed since being post meno I have gone off the smell and taste of certain foods i dont know if there is a hormonal link but since pregnant women seem to find  this  it's seems  possible to me.

Are you getting any help with your anxiety?

X

Hello again ladies 👋
I'm guessing it's hormones again focus,I remember when I was pregnant, many MANY moons ago and I couldn't tolerate the smell of tea or coffee and I mean to the point of,like you, wanting to throw up,no rhyme nor reason to it,or so you'd think but hormones it is

Thank you ladies.

I've always been sensitive to light and sound (I'm an introvert, so I can get 'full' of those kinds of sensations beyond a certain point).

I've only ever had two migraines though. One was maybe 8 years ago, and the other was last year, when I taking Tranexamic acid to cope with the heavy bleeding I was getting. I was getting olfactory hallucinations as part of it and felt like I was going to throw up. I was so exhausted, the only thing I could do was sleep.

A silent migraine? I didn't even know that was a thing  :o

The aching in my body is not much fun. I just feel sore everywhere.

All I want to do is sleep.

Seriously, I normally have so much energy. I can barely face speaking to people at the moment.

I have  two types of migraine . The classic aura with vomiting and headache plus..I've just been diagnosed with aura without the headache too.  It causes all sorts of sensory symptoms.  I didn't recognise it as migraine because it lacked my usual headache but the neurologist diagnosed it.

Quite often I smell  burning with it.  It's a phantom smell as nothing is burning at the time.

And weirdly, today I feel great. Even though I'm unbelievably busy today, working in three different locations throughout my day.

I had a bit of a laugh last night. I absolutely dragged myself out for a run at 9.00pm. I like running at night. I come home, have a bath and then go to bed after.

Anyway, I dragged myself out. Was running for a bit. The timer on my Strava was ticking over, but the distance part didn't kick in straight away. So when I was looking at my time and what I thought was my distance and feeling as tired as I was, I was feeling even more down.

Then I twigged after I got home and looked at the route on the little map. There was a big chunk missing.

I'd actually run an extra almost 1k, which meant my time was totally OK for that distance.

Ah well.

The migraine thing is weird though...

Actually, I noticed my tinnitus was bad the past few days, louder than normal.

It's gone back to being at its usual volume now...

I've had a migraine for the last two days.
First day it was really just the Aura. Made me feel a nauseous.
Second day, aura again but with a dull headache right across the front of my head.
I've had quite a bit of sleep whilst suffering it too.

Today, im feeling great.
I must admit, as much as these headaches makes us feel rubbish, I'd rather have these types of migraine rather than the ones I used to get that were so debilitating I couldn't raise my head off the pillow for the pain!
They do say that sometimes our senses get really sensitive BEFORE a migraine episode, ie, sounds, smells, taste. You can also have audio sounds too, you think you've heard something, but no one else has! ..they are a worry, even more so if you suffer from Health Anxiety. xx

Focus. Great.  You sound like you've had a very productive couple of days.  Good on ya!?

Hiya jilly. Glad yours is better. I've had one this week too. Started with the "fireflies" in my vision.

Funny you should say about the noises. I was laying in bed during my latest one and thought I heard a sheep bleating. I txt my sister said "I STG I can hear a,sheep bleating" I live in a flat on a,council estate!!!!  She txt back "have you taken your meds today". 🤣

I haven't read the responses, but when taking The Pill I couldn't smell nice things.  It was garbage  >:( but I didn't realise until I had stopped the contractpitve 11 years later.  Suddenly I noticed roses  :-*
