Title: Femiston 0.5 any good reviews?
Post by: Suzysheb on January 28, 2020, 06:48:09 PM
Hello does anyone have any good reviews of Femiston 0.5 I've just been prescribed it and I'm nervous. I have terrible menopausal symptoms but mostly it's my sleep. Can anyone help me? Will these tablets help me? I'm desperate ladies!!! Thank you

Hi Suzysheb

 :welcomemm:

Maybe tell us a little more about yourself and your menopause so we can help you better ie what your other symptoms are, what your periods are doing or if you don't have them when your last one was, how old you are etc?

However - those of us who take and are settled on HRT will mostly say go for it? HRT is not a sleeping pill but if you have flushes or sweats that are disturbing your sleep this alone can help. It can also improve mood so if it also makes you less anxious this might help you sleep better if you are more relaxed and happy?

Good luck :)

Hi Hurdity
Thank you for your reply! I'm new to HRT having had my last period about 6 months ago. I just feel so wretched since... depressed and anxious, brain fog and feeling like I'm dry from inside to out!!! Also terrible sleep and hot flushes (which I can manage) also feeling like I can't cope when previously I was a capable person!! That's about it really. Been prescribed Femiston 0.5 by the dr but just worried about taking it in. X

Hey Suzy!

I'm fairly new to all this too, when I started HRT last summer (the first time, I should add!) I was about 4 months or so after my last period so at this stage we are classed as peri I think? I haven't heard of anyone at this stage being on a low dose like this if I'm honest (I started on 1mg). Femiston contains the "friendliest" kind of progesterone for those who react to progesterone (which is fairly common). My meno symptoms were not flushes luckily but almost every post I've read says that the HRT helped them in that area particularly.

on Femiston 1/10 they did definitely help me down there. Why don't you give them a try for a few weeks and see how you go? If I've learned anything its that feeling good is a bit of a moving target when it comes to hormones, so it may take some tweaking, and trial and error.
Let us know how you get on X

Hi Mogster
Thank you. I'm just so confused with it all and I must admit I said to my dr I wanted a low dose. I don't think she knew what to give me. I felt that she didn't really give me much advice.

I am so worried and confused and feel so unwell.. I don't know whether I'm coming or going to be honest. I will give them a try and let you know how I get on xx

Really if you had a period 6 months ago then you should really have been prescribed Femoston 1/10 like Mogster as you are still peri-menopausal otherwise if/when you ovulate you will get a random bleed whereas on Femoston 1/10 you would go back to getting a monthly withdrawal bleed and know when it was coming hopefully. However as that is such a very low dose you may be OK - which not give it a go and then you can always change if it doesn't suit? Femoston 0.5 is a continuous combined HRT - for women who have been without a natural period for 12 months.

As for the vaginal dryness - if that's what you mean - you would probably benefit from a proprietary brand of local oestrogen designed to plump up that area.  They can be used as well as sytemic HRT especially recommended if you are on a very low dose HRT as this is unlikely to help with the dryness. There are various products listed here:

I have found the Femoston suits me well - I tried Elleste before that but that seemed to make my joint problems worse.

I have been on the 1/10, then the 2/10 because it was not really controlling symptoms as well as it could have, and now I am on the 1/5 conti.

The 0.5 is a very low dose (and what I am aiming for at 60 if the doctors start thinking I should be off the 1/5).  Is there a reason why you need to be on such a low dose?

Yes, it can really be confusing to start with.   You can read a list of what is available in  the tabs at the top of the screen - look at the treatments for perimenopause.  And like Hurdity says, look at the topical oestrogen too (I have this too).

I must admit, I read and read and thought I knew what was needed but it took a few trips to the doctors and a few blind alleyways to sort it out. Some doctors have their own ideas and some don't seem too sure and it is really hard to know how to discuss what you want 10 minutes xx
